Don’t miss this opportunity to jump-start your early 19th century tailcoat at Yesteryear’s Essentials! Along with other interesting speakers and presentations, this year’s workshop will feature Saundra Altman and Ericka Osen who will guide a workshop instruction on creating a muslin template for a man’s early 19th century tailcoat. Don’t miss this opportunity to attend this one-time only workshop to learn the basics behind crafting this important men‘s daily garment. (workshop limited to 10) For many living history enthusiasts late 18th and early 19th century mens’ clothing can offer a unique challenge for the inexperienced tailor or seamstress. Participants will create a muslin which will be adjusted to fit. The muslin can be used as a pattern or can be used to alter the paper pattern. This will be a personal template made to fit the body type of the garment owner. There will be a short review of fabric choices and explanations as to why working with wool is different from working with silk, cotton or linen. What to bring: Bring any Item you plan to wear beneath the garment such as vest(s) shirt and even a cravat. Participants are encouraged to also bring their sewing machine along with extra long glass head quilting pins, quality machine thread, tailor’s tape, tailor’s chalk, sharp scissors, pencil or markers. If there is a garment fabric chosen, bring that along with buttons or hooks and eyes. Patterns choices For the purpose of stream-lining the workshop, please choose which Past Patterns' coat pattern you will be using to make your coat: A) 1797-1806 Breakaway Front Tailcoat.
