STEPS THROUGH THE LESSON
INTO
RATIONALE
Partner Match – Students each are given a card with a
different word on it. They must find the other person
who has either a synonym or antonym for the word.
Once they find their match, each student will say a
sentence using the word to their partner. Then,
Students will mingle switching cards with other
students. When teacher says to, students will repeat
the process. This activity can last five to ten minutes.
Teacher observes to see
how well students know the
content.
Teacher will review antonym and synonyms with the
provided posters.
Poster instead of
PowerPoint or lecture
provides different form of
instruction.
THROUGH
RATIONALE
Students will read “Spiderman Versus Doctor Octopus”
pgs 65 – 73 in groups of three. Each student will be a
character: Spiderman, Dr. Octopus, or all other
characters.
Reading aloud will help
increase students reading
fluency.
After, students will use highlighter tape to highlight
words that they are unfamiliar with.
Each student will receive a “Spiderman Versus Doctor
Octopus” worksheet. This worksheet contains words
that the students will know and may not know. They
can add more words to the worksheet.
BEYOND
RATIONALE
Each Student will complete three Synonym and
Antonym spider web worksheets.
Each student will receive a panel from the comic. One
of the words on the panel will be covered or whited
out. This word pertains to one of the words that were
on the previous worksheet. Students will fill in the
blank with a synonym or antonym for the original word.
The student will then write a one page response
answering the following:
- How the antonym would change the storyline
- Why the synonym alters very little of the story
This will help students see
how one word can change
the story.
