J at School is very excited to bringing Enrichment classes back to
Alcott Elementary! We have some amazing new classes this session to
supplement the classes and vendors that you already know and love!
If there are any classes you do not see and would like to have at your
school, please do not hesitate to contact us and we’d be happy to
look into adding that class for you and your community.

Alcott After School Enrichment, Spring 2016
This Spring, in partnership with Alcott Elementary, J at School is offering an excellent selection of Enrichment
programs to enhance your child’s school experience. The Spring session will begin Monday, May 2nd and will
end on Friday, June 17th. All classes are 3:00-4:00 pm.
Monday
NEW! Sewing: Learning to Knit with Needles with SisiterArts Studio! Beginning knitter will learn to knit flat items (scarf
or mini blanket) with needles, advanced knitters can choose
to knit in the round with circular needles (hat or headband).
Needles and yarn included.
Grades 2-6 • min 4/max 8
Amazing Minds Calling all 1st-2nd graders! How would you
like to go on an incredible journey with Amazing Minds after
school where instructors will help sharpen your skills in math,
science, geography, language arts and reading through
fun, hands-on thematic based activities. Top it all off with
exciting topic related take home prizes such as an Australian
boomerang or a shark’s tooth! Come and exercise your brain
with us after school!

Martial Arts with Impact Dojo Children will be engaged in a
high energy and fun environment in which they will be taught
the basic principles and history of Martial Arts. They will learn
the basics of self-defense and the appropriate time to use it.
In addition, they will be taught Stranger Danger Awareness.
This will help them assess friend from foe and how to act
accordingly. Most importantly they will gain confidence, learn
discipline, and be taught how to respect themselves, their
peers, and their elders.

Forward Momentum: Ballet PreK-1 Hey all of you tip-toers
out there! Learn the basics of Ballet... Tombe, Pas de Bourree,
Pirouette! Classes include barre work, across the floor steps,
fun stretches and graceful choreography.

Tuesday
Emerald City Drama: Wizard of Oz
Follow the yellow brick road to a Wizard of Oz class that
explores the characters and scenes from the famous story
and movie! Students will dance and sing along to their
favorite Wizard of Oz tunes, and use their imaginations to
play Oz-inspired games! Gather your courage, wits, and heart
about you as students present their very own Emerald City
story on the final day of class. But watch out for those lions,
tigers, and bears, oh my!

Chess Scholars Be a part of Chess Scholars this spring!
Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period
and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced
participants are welcome and will get to the next level under
the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. There
will also be a chess competition with prizes and a party at
the end of the session! Each child will recieve a participation
award and a chess keychain!

NEW! Basketball Come out and play as we have fun learning
the fundamentals of the game with unique drills, games,
& contests that will keep you active after school. 3Point
Athletics’ team of engaging and knowledgeable coaches will
blend the perfect amount of skill instruction with organized
games & fun activities to create a class that is productive,
positive, & fun!

Wednesday
Dream Big: Broadway Kids If you love musical theater,
this class is for you! Come explore the foundations of
theater with fun drama games, acting, improvisation, music
and movement. In this unique class format, students will
collaborate to create their very own play using their favorite
songs from popular shows as a jumping off point. They
will improvise a script and create a cohesive storyline that
connects these songs into a musical of their own creation
that they will perform at the end of the session for family and
friends.

Design Dance: Tap Tap your feet and dance to the rhythm
of the music! Learn the fundamentals of this classic dance
form in a fun and encouraging environment. Tap promotes a
combination of rhythm, timing, and coordination. This class
concludes with a parent observation on the final week of
class.

NEW! Sticky Fingers Cooking Let your child release their
inner chef! Students will prepare and eat healthy global
inspired recipes all while learning to cook in a fun, engaging
and real world way! Our Chefs will reinforce kitchen skill
associated with our weekly recipes and each area of cooking
terminology, foods and fun nutrition facts (even a few bad
jokes!) We will practice measurements, use a wide array
of cooking utensils, while always preparing the freshest
ingredients while cooking and more!

NEW! Red Cross Babysitting Certification Ready to start
your own Babysitter business this summer? This training
provides youth who are planning to babysit with the
knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly
give care for children and infants. This training will help
participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to
develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and
others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic
child care and basic first aid. Course covers babysitting
certification, CPR, First Aid and AED. Certificate, a
participants manual, and a CPR mask are incuded!
NEW! Soccer Youth Soccer International’s exciting
program is full of fun activities and games to develop
your child’s soccer skills. We focus on core technical
components and fundamental soccer skills (passing,
dribbling and speed, defensive and offensive skills) while
having fun.

Thursday
World Drumming World Drumming Workshops are an
entertaining, hands-on learning experience for kids of
any age. Students engage in fun musical activities using
percussion instruments to play rhythms from Latin America,
Africa and other places around the world.
NEW! Little Ninjagos with Impact Dojo! This class is
designed to introduce children ages pre-k to 1st grade to
martial arts and its principles! The focus of the class will
be on the development of eye hand coordination, physical
strength that is appropriate for the age group and the
principles of Karate (confidence, discipline, focus, and
respect). Through games, book readings, and various other
fun activities, kids will learn the fundamental aspects of
Karate and the martial arts. This class high energy and fun
class will help them transition into the higher class when they
reach the appropriate age.

Mad Science: Science at Work Junior mad scientists
will learn a variety of different fun and exciting topics
throughout this Mad Science session. They will soar with
the fundamentals of flight as they make and test a variety of
paper airplanes, experience balancing, spinning and looping
as they explore forces affecting them, perform and discover
the science behind some of their favorite magic tricks and
much, much more! Tumbling Our My Gym tumblers will “fall” into fun this
session, all while learning basic tumbling and gymnastics
skills, movement and dance routines, sports, and more! Our
goal for our Tumblers is to increase flexibility, strength, and
knowledge of gymnastics, all while having a great time!

Mission Propelle: Girl Power Yoga! Mission Propelle
(formerly Smarty Pants Yoga) empowers elementary-aged
girls to discover who they are, what they believe, and how
to advocate for themselves through a combination of yoga,
reading, and mentoring. In each one-hour class, girls develop
mindfulness and self-confidence as they practice yoga, and
problem solving by reading original storybooks starring a

Bricks 4 Kidz: Transportation Timeline If you like planes,
trains and automobiles, then this unit is for you! Each week,
students will build motorized models of a dragster, a railroad
crossing gate, an airplane and more. Explore the history
of transportation from horse and buggy and trains to the
development of the automobile and flight. Your child can
follow our step-by-step model plans to create their vehicle,
then customize it to their own specifications and take their
mini-figure for a ride! Don’t miss out, register today!

Unicoi Art Studio: Happy Hands Your child will explore a
wide variety of subjects from rockets and robots to famous
artists by learning to paint, draw, collage and sculpt. Tactile
Sandlot This multi-sport program will feature a variety of
materials like clay, wax strings, oil pastels and acrylic paints
sports and classic playground games in a fun, noncompetitive will help your child enjoy learning the basic principles of art
environment. Join us for basketball, softball, kick ball, capture and invite them to think creatively.
