The Mutual has created an incentive program to encourage children
to set savings goals and learn how to reach them. You don’t have
to be at school to participate in saving, simply save within the dates
of the school terms and you too can play along. Each term children
have the opportunity to earn stickers when a deposit of $1 or more
is made at a Mutual Branch or by Bank@school® (maximum one
sticker per week).
Simply place your sticker on Priscilla and Patrick’s farmyard
trail on page 10.
The incentive program will run for each of the four school terms in
2014. After eight deposits within the period of a term you can claim
a prize. You can earn 4 prizes a year.
Terms and Conditions apply. Eligible entrants must have a Mighty Mutual account during the period of
the competition and are aged 12 years and under at 30 December 2014. Participants can only obtain
one Mighty Mutual Club booklet. Minimum deposit is $1.00 and you are entitiled to a maximum of
one sticker per week. Once 8 or more stickers have been collected in one term on Priscilla and Patrick’s
Farmyard Trail a prize is eligible to be claimed at any branch of The Mutual. Terms and conditions are
available at www.themutual.com.au and from all branches of The Mutual. LTPM/1301158 Maitland

What is
a bank?
What is
a bank
account?
A bank is a place that
looks after people’s
money for them and
keeps it safe.
A bank account is the
record your bank keeps
to know how much
money you have given
them to mind. It has
your name on it so the
bank knows it is your
money.
The Mutual’s Bank@school® program
The Mutual provides a school banking program.
Bank@school® is very popular and is a great introduction to help
encourage and educate children about the importance of saving.
Students are invited to open a Mighty Mutual Account and receive
their own fun passbook to keep track of their savings.
A representative from The Mutual will visit participating schools each
week of the school term (excluding the first week of the school year).
Passbooks are collected from a locked deposit box and are taken for
processing and returned to the school for distribution to the students.

ATM stands for Automatic
Teller Machine. This is where
you can withdraw your money
without having to go into a
bank. To get money from an
ATM machine an ATM card is
needed.
Deposit
A deposit is when you put
money into your bank account.
The money stays in your
account at the bank until you
need it.
Interest
Interest is money the bank pays
you for letting them look after
your money. It’s like a reward
for not spending your money.
The more money you put in
the bank and the longer you
leave it there, the more interest
you’ll get.
Withdrawal
A withdrawal is when you
take money out of your bank
account to spend. You can
leave the rest of your money in
your account until you would
like to buy something else.
Statement
A statement is a record of
everything that you have done
on your bank account. If
money goes into your account
or you spend money from
your bank account it will show
on your bank statement. The
interest that you have received
from your bank will also be
displayed. A balance is shown
on your statement. This is how
much money you have in your
account.

Some ideas to help you reach your savings goal
If I save the same amount each week, how
many weeks will it take me to reach my goal?.........................................................................
You can work this out by calculating:
$300.00
÷
? weeks = ?
This will tell you how much you will have to save each week.
If you need help to work out how much you need to save, see if
Mum or Dad can help. You can also get Mum or Dad to help you
visit our website www.themutual.com.au and take a look at our

Your budget
What is a
Budget?
Do you think that you can make a budget for yourself?
You can create your own budget and update it as
you save and spend throughout the year.
A Budget is a plan to help you keep track of how much you earn and how
much you spend. It can also help you reach your savings goal sooner by
setting limits on the amount of money you can spend over a period of time.
