ATTENDANCES
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The SSAA NSW attendance year runs from
1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014.
Below are answers to some frequently asked questions.
How many attendances do I need to
complete each attendance year?
The minimum number of attendances required
each reporting year for registered activities are:

4 for target shooting

2 for hunting

1 for collecting
Please note: members who have more than one activity
registered are required to complete the attendances for each
activity; e.g. if you have Target and Hunting you will need to
complete four Target shooting attendances and two Hunting
attendances. Members may complete a Target Shooting and
a Hunting attendance during the one visit to the Range.
I don’t own any Firearms; do I still have
to complete attendances?
Yes, not owning any firearms is not an
acceptable reason for non-compliance; all licence
holders must comply with the conditions of their
Firearms Licence.
Many ranges have firearms that can be used
for the purpose of completing attendances.
I hold a Game Council R Licence. Can I still use this to support my genuine
reason for hunting?
Yes. The NSW Firearms Registry has confirmed that Game Council R Licences are recognised
as a means of supporting a firearms licence with a genuine reason of Recreational Hunting and
Vermin Control.
I have heard that I need to specify the type of attendance I am completing,
what does this mean?
SSAA NSW is required to report annually on member’s attendances to the NSW Firearms
Registry. A separate report of attendances is required for each genuine reason. When members
attend at a range/Club they need to specify the type of activity they are completing during their
attendance e.g. Target Shooting, Hunting or Collecting. Members can do this by marking the
T, H and/or C boxes on the attendance receipt. If no activity is specified the attendance will
automatically be recorded as a Target Shooting attendance only.
If attending at a range/Club with an electronic recording system, please ensure the person
processing the transaction is aware of the type of activities you are completing during your
attendance so they can be registered accordingly.
Attendances cannot be transferred between activities; they must be specified at the time of
attendance. Always retain your attendance receipts as proof of attendance.
I have sent the NSW Firearms Registry an
alternate means of supporting my Recreational
Hunting/Vermin Control Licence. Do I still need to
attend the range twice a year?
If you have an alternate means of supporting your Hunting
genuine reason such as a Game Council R Licence, your own
property or a letter of permission from a landholder submitted
to the NSW Firearms Registry, you are not required to
complete the two Hunting attendances. In this instance, please
notify SSAA NSW in writing so we can adjust your SSAA
activities to reflect this.
Please note: If you have multiple genuine reasons, you will still
be required to complete the attendance requirements for any
other genuine reasons you are licenced for.
Does SSAA NSW look after my Pistol Attendances?
No. SSAA NSW records and reports on longarm attendances only. You will need to contact your
Pistol Club regarding your pistol attendances.
I have been unable to meet my attendance requirements this year because of
Illness, travel, work commitments or other exceptional circumstances?
If you are unable to attend for a significant portion of the 12 months ending 31 March for one or
more of the above reasons, you should obtain documents that will support your circumstance. Do
not send the documentation to SSAA NSW, but retain as the NSW Firearms Registry may
request a written explanation of your non-attendance.
