th Volume 8 Issue 13 Thursday 10 December 2015 Christmas is coming but Learning never stops… We have our very own Santa’s grotto in F2 this week the children have had great fun dressing up as Santa and his helpers in our role play area. They have been writing lists, planning designs for toys and wrapping presents up - lots of skills to help their learning. Have a look on our blog for photographs. https://f2wcm.wordpress.com This week has been so exciting in Y2. We have had the privilege to work with two artists Sue and Charlie who helped us build a model of the Titanic! It took us only 3 days and turned out a little bigger than we thought, but we are amazed by the children’s work. Even the little details like the passengers on board, the propeller and the cabins. It is hanging from the ceiling by the main stairs so go and check it out! If you look on our blog you can see the process we used to create it. https://y2wcm.wordpress.com This week we got creative in Y4 with a sandwich bag and a pair of tights to create a model digestive system. We crushed crackers into the sandwich bag, added water and mashed them to a pulp to replicate the action of the stomach. Then we put the mixture through a pair of tights, squeezing out all the water, which is the job of the intestines. Finally, we pushed out the remnants of the crackers…you can guess what this was meant to be! There are some great pictures on our blog for you to look at. https://y4wcm.wordpress.com Last Friday in Y5GE, we filled up our token tower! 100 gold tokens to show how well we follow the Golden Rules! As we have been reading Coraline in Guided Reading, I purchased the film to watch as the class Watercliffe Thursday Green ‘Un Page 1 reward (this is what they chose!) So, on Monday afternoon we received our hardearned prize! We also had nibbles and drinks! It is definitely worth following the Golden Rules at WCM. In Y6 we read a poem called ‘If Only’… by Pie Corbett. We used the poem’s structure to create our own version, after we had come up with lots of synonyms for ‘catch’, and lots of abstract nouns and ideas. If only you could, what would you catch, and what would you do with it? Here are our ideas: If only I could… If only I could seize a seed of truth and make it grow so no one could ever tell a lie If only I could take hold of hatred and keep it then I would throw it in the cellar and never remember If only I could grip magnetism and store it for the hardest times in life If only I could grab sadness, and lock it away to be happy forever If only I could hold the colours of the rainbow and share it with the hateful places of the world If only I could take sadness and keep it locked away so that everyone could be happy If only I could trap a handful of dreams and lock them away for when I am down If only I could steal hatred and lock it in an underground vault for eternity If only I could snatch a beam of moonlight and use it to help people in their dark moments If only I could spear a star and light up my days or use it for inspiration 11/12/2015 when I’m older If only I could arrest my dreams and store them in a vault and become a police officer If only I could mummify a memory and keep it for a hard time in life If only I could trap time and use it for when I’m late If only I could catch a ray of moonlight and treasure it for the dark days of life Nativity How amazing were our Phase 1 children performing the Nativity play? They have worked so hard to learn their lines, be in the right place on stage and memorise all of the songs. It is always amazing watching our youngest children perform. You must be so proud of them, as are we! A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen. WCM Calendars Again this year we will be selling our very own WCM calendars. The children have been busy designing and every year group has had an input. Call in to the office to order your copy. Celebrations and Parties You should have received a letter from your child’s class informing you of any celebration event or parties they are having in the next few weeks at school. The class parties will be spread over the last week at school. On party day children in Phase 1 will be able to come to school in their party clothes and children in Phase 2 & 3 (Y2-Y6) will come in uniform and bring a change of clothes for party time. If you have any questions just ask your child’s teacher. Green Un by email? Do you find it difficult to read our Green Un on a weekly basis? If so why not email Liz Graham in the office ([email protected]) and she will add you to her weekly mailing list. You can also call in to the office and hand her your email address. Please pass this message on to your family and friends! Milk Orders Orders need to be placed by Monday 14th December for your child if they require milk in the spring term. The cost of milk for the term will be £8.50. If your child has free dinners they can also claim free milk but this needs to be ordered. Please call in to the office and place your order. After School Clubs The letter has gone out for after school clubs today ready for next term. All clubs need to be applied for even if you wish your child to continue with an activity. The office will let you know if your child has successfully got a place in a club. After school activities are a great way to make new friends and try new activities. It also gives your child the opportunity to collect hours towards their Children’s University award. These are presented at a ceremony in the Town Hall for every 100 hours your child completes. It is very posh and a lovely evening out! Christmas Holidays We break up for Christmas on Friday 18th December and return to school on Monday 4th January 2016! 11/12/2015
