 SCHMIDTz KATZE FILMKOLLEKTIV SUSPENSE MOVIES
Our Thriller Slate consists of three electrifying, visually gripping thrillers: THE FACE, BIG GAME and CANIMA . These original stories will be shot in English. They are aimed at a clearly addressable, international audience in theatres, on DVD and VOD, and in TV, late prime time. The films have a high potential for a theatrical release in a number of countries. They will reach people who are interested in genre movies and may well become cross‐over‐successes like “Anatomy”, “The Descent” or “Tattoo”. Due to the explicit focus on the relevant target groups and the portfolio approach, producing these thrillers offers a protected ‚downside‘. The fact that the genre audience is very reliable, suggests a minimum recoupment in multiple territories worldwide. Each and every film is crafted according to the rules of the specific genre thus reflecting and satisfying the audience’s expectations. Moreover, the unique stories and fascinating visuals promise contemporary entertainment and a strong ‚upside‘. The slate will be shot back‐to‐back in spring 2010. We plan 100 shooting days all together, mostly in Germany, and a delivery of the three completed thrillers in the end of 2010. The visual effects will be realised by the internationally operating Swedish post production company The Chimney Pot with the artists from “Night Watch”, “Day Watch” and “Let the right one in” being involved. The intended budgets are between 1.5 and 2.5 Mio. Euro per film – a number that enables us to produce high quality movies for a theatrical release, and at the same time accounts for the reality of today’s market recoupment oppor‐
tunities. All story rights are with SCHMIDTz KATZE FILMKOLLEKTIV. Being the respon‐
sible producer we coordinate the interests of all parties and stand for good communications, transparency, and flexibility in financing and realising the films. SCHMIDTz KATZE FILMKOLLEKTIV is known as a reliable partner and efficient budgeter. Our previous productions prove our ability to generate a maximum production value in relation to the actual budget. Examples are our feature films DEVOT, METAMORPHOSIS and BLACK ICE (Berlinale Competition 2008). Trailer of our completed films can be found on our website. THE FACE
BIG GAME
CANIMA
Supernatural‐Thriller Horrifying, erotic and full of surprise. A beautiful woman comes into a remote Italian village on her search for the father, she never met. There she brings an old secret back to life. The village’s mirrors unleash an evil ghost from the past, the ‘beautiful man‘. A film about vanity and the dark side of beauty. THE FACE will be shot in English. In accordance with the story’s gripping authenticity there will also be some Italian and German dialogues. Shot in Germany (25 days) and Italy (15 days), the film will star a German female lead and an international cast. The director Andreas Marschall attracted world‐
wide attention with his first feature film “Tears of Kali”. For THE FACE he is joined by a very expe‐
rienced team, like German DoP Jo Heim and the Italian production designer Giuliano Pannuti. Action‐Thriller A fast and fierce film about courage and the ques‐
tion: How far would you go to defend yourself? Alex joins young people from all over the world for an illegal paintball‐tournament in a former German military base. When his friends are attacked and killed, for Alex the game turns into a dirty fight for survival. This action‐loaded film will be shot during 33 days in Germany and three days in a remote mountain area (e.g. Sweden). Our plan is to cast actors from different countries and to shoot in English. The locations and cast shall support the distinctive identity of the story. Director Christoph Zachariae writes successfully for TV and the big screen. He graduated in directing from the Filmakademie in Ludwigsburg and realised a number of short films since then. For the storytelling of BIG GAME he became familiar with the milieu of Paintball and benefits from his special survival‐training experiences. Backwood‐Horror‐Thriller Anarchistic, powerful and controversial: Jessy, the spokeswoman of an international Pharma compa‐
ny, is taken prisoner by anti‐globalisation activists. On the run from the police the group gets lost in the forest and finds shelter in an abandoned house. Night falls and they are confronted with the bestial power of an ancient force that was brought here a long time ago from the rainforests of South America ‐ to take revenge on civilisation. Since the characters origin from different countries CANIMA will also be shot in English. Consequently, the actors will be from countries like Canada, France, Germany or Spain. Apart from three shoo‐
ting days on location in the rainforest the movie will be shot within 32 days in Germany. This radical story combines fascinating characters with a subtle political irony. It is also developed with Andreas Marschall. He has an international fan base not only for his directing but especially for his work as graphic artist and painter. For the marketing of his movies we plan to activate them.
