Dear Parents,
October is one of two months devoted to Mary, the other month being May. October is
designated as the month of the Holy Rosary. The feast day of the Holy Rosary is tomorrow,
October 7th. On this day, we remember the glorious and triumphant victory at the battle of
Lepanto. That battle was the most convincing military victory that proved without a doubt the
great power of the Rosary (see enclosed flyer or go to www.tldm.org. for the complete story of
the battle of Lepanto). Saying the Rosary can bring great peace and holiness to your life. It is
a powerful instrument for conversion. The Rosary is the best method of honoring Mary.
Both St. Peter Church and St. Peter Tri-Parish School have many events planned for this very
busy month:
⇒ MAY DEVOTIONS—every Monday evening at 6:30 PM at St. Peter Church (not
including October 31st, Halloween)
⇒ MORNING PRAYERS—at school will reflect on the Mysteries of the Rosary
⇒ BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS—took place on October 1st
⇒ PINK DAY—a great day at school when all the children can wear pink dress down
clothes for a free will donation. Money raised will benefit The Breast Health Center
at Kent.
⇒ HARVEST FEST—this greatly anticipated annual fall event will take place on Friday,
October 21st.
CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS: We have had 2 Cross Country meets since my last
newsletter. Please consult enclosed flyer and e-flyer for the results of these meets.
2016-2017 FUNDRAISERS AND CHARITIES:
⇒
⇒
⇒
⇒
GRANDMA’S PIES: orders and payment due by October 12th
SCHOOL STORE: information packet sent home this week.
BEACON SUBSCRIPTIONS: ongoing
“FEEDING AMERICA” PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE: 280 lbs. of peanut butter
collected this year!
As you know, each month we use some of our Dress Down money for various charities. Thus
far we have made donations to:
⇒
⇒
⇒
⇒
DRUG PREVENTION
GOLF TOURNAMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Ancient Order of Hibernians
MYASTHENIA GRAVIS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA (MG walk)
WARWICK K9—heat protection put into police cars for the dogs that have to stay in
cars most of the day.
MANDATORY FUNDRAISING: Many families have still not returned the form indicating
how they will take care of their $250.00 per family fundraising obligation. Please complete
the form and return to Mrs. Rossi next week. This fundraising is REQUIRED for all St.
Peter Tri-Parish School families. It is one of the means used to help us to maintain affordable
tuition rates for our families. Thank you for your cooperation.
25 WEEK CLUB: Don’t forget to sign up for this year’s 25 Week Club. Four prizes are
drawn weekly and at the end of the 25 weeks, there will be Grand Prize Drawings for
$1,000.00, $500.00, $300.00, $200.00 and $100.00. This is one of the options available to you
in order to fulfil your $250.00 per family Mandatory Fundraising fee. First drawing will
take place on Friday, October 21, 2016.
RED SOX BASKET RAFFLE: Mrs. Unger is having a special Red Sox raffle to benefit our
Robotics program. A flyer went home earlier this week with all the details.
SPANISH NEWS: In the last newsletter, we told you what grades 5 to 8 were doing to
celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. Grades 2 to 4 are learning about chocolate!
Chocolate has a long history—4000 years. There is evidence that Chocolate was produced by
the ancient Mesoamericans as early as 1900 B.C. Mesoamerica is the region that extends from
central Mexico and it includes parts of Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The
students in grades 2-4 are coming up with their own creative ways to present chocolate to
King Charles V just as Heran Cortes did many years ago!
PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE: We congratulate Grade 7 for collecting the most jars of
peanut butter. To be fair to the various numbers in each classroom, we figured this based on
percentages, not the actual number of jars brought in. They will be rewarded with a nice
treat from one of the sponsors of the drive, The Cheesecake Factory. Last year we collected
237 lbs. of peanut butter, but this year we collected 280 lbs.! Thank you for being so extremely
generous to families in need of assistance from “Feeding America”.
SCHOOL GUILD MEETING: We will be having a School Guild Meeting on Wednesday,
October 12th at 7:00 PM in the school cafeteria. Please enter through the kitchen door.
Babysitting will be available.
EFFMAN MUSIC LESSONS: We are happy to announce that the Effman Music began
lessons this week. They are currently teaching on Monday and Thursday mornings. Thanks
to all who signed up. I would have hated to lose our “after school” music program.
FEINSTEIN JUNIOR SCHOLAR PROGRAM: In addition to the very generous check we
received from the Feinstein Foundation, the children received their journals this week. Please
note that the Feinstein Junior Scholar Card, which allows the children free entry into many
places such as the Mystic Aquarium, is located on the back of the journal. Please cut it out
carefully and keep it in a safe place.
During the months of November and December, we would like to collect as many canned
goods as possible. We can send them to a food pantry of our choice. The Feinstein
Foundation will donate $1.00 per can, up to $1000.00 to our school for collecting canned goods
to help out the many families serviced by local food pantries.
FLU CLINIC: This year’s flu clinic will take place in the school cafeteria on Wednesday,
October 19th from 4:00-6:00 PM. Please note: THERE WILL BE NO FLU MIST
AVAILABLE THIS YEAR. CDC reported that Flumist has shown lower-than-expected
effectiveness this past year; therefore, it is not recommended for the 2016-2017 season.
STATE LAW REMINDERS:
⇒ State law mandates that there is no smoking within 200 feet of school property. For
the health and well-being of our children we ask all our parents to abide by this law.
Thank you!
⇒ State law mandates that children and adults only cross streets in the cross walk.
There are no crosswalks on Mayfair Road. Two crosswalks are located on Fair
Street and at the top of Mayfair where it connects with Fair Street. Therefore, we
would once again remind you that drop off and pick up of students only takes place
in the Church parking lot located on Fair Street.
STUDENT RECOGNITION:
Daniel Franchetti, Grade 7, was awarded his Certified Black Belt from World Martial Arts
in Cranston. He has been involved in Karate for over 4 years. He broke 3 cement blocks,
performed numerous forms and combinations, ran 1 mile in 7 minutes, wrote 2 essays,
volunteered, and did 100 each of jumping jacks, squats, push-ups and sit-ups within one
hour. Wow! Great job, Dan. Congratulations.
SIGNIFICANT FAMILY EVENT:
Liam and Noah Bonney’s (Grade 5 & PK4) mom, Mary, was hospitalized last week due to
illness. She is home resting now, but please keep her and the Bonney family in your prayers.
EMPTY INK CARTRIDGES: Although greatly appreciated, please do not send in the large
ink/toner cartridges for a few months. We do not have enough storage space and I can only
bring so many to Staples per month. The small cartridges are always welcome! Thank you for
your understanding.
MILK CARTONS: We are currently collecting large plastic milk jugs for our Harvest Fest.
It would be greatly appreciated if you rinsed them out before sending them to school. Thank
you so much for your cooperation.

Recite your Rosary with faith, with humility, with confidence, and with perseverance. When
the Holy Rosary is said well, it gives Jesus and Mary more glory and is more meritorious
than any other prayer.
