CO2 – Kick the Habit
Your carbon emissions are referred to as your
carbon footprint. The aim is to significantly reduce
the size of your carbon footprint.

Thursday
1) A synonym for “emission” is:
a.
input
b.
production
c.
contain.
2) Your carbon footprint is…
Simple measures will help achieve this goal:
• Switching off lights in rooms you are not using;
• Switching off computers that are not being used;
• Heating and cooling only the space you use;
• Buying energy efficient appliances. Look for the
Energy Rating stickers on whitegoods and
electronic equipment.
• Using recycled paper;
• Choosing energy saving light bulbs.
Australia has declared that by 2012, no
incandescent bulbs will be sold. This decision will
reduce emissions by four million tonnes and reduce
energy for lighting by up to 66 percent.
There is a limit, though, to how much you can
reduce your energy consumption. The choice is now
there for you to purchase “carbon credits” to offset
your carbon emissions. Carbon credits produce
renewable energy from the sun, wind, water and
waste, all producing far less greenhouse gas
emissions. This will help to sustain our environment
and reduce climate change. Most importantly,
responsible choices will reduce the carbon footprint
you leave on Earth.
a.

b.
