Invite some friends round for a Winter Warmer and raise

Invite some friends round
for a Winter Warmer
and raise money to help
end loneliness
You can help us spread the warmth this year
by holding your very own Winter Warmer
This can be any event or activity held between October and February which makes
you feel warm and cosy. Whether it’s a coffee morning or quiz night, every penny you
raise will go to help older people this winter. Here are some ideas to inspire you...
Hot chocolate morning
Hold a hot choc morning at your local community centre or church. Invite your friends, family and
neighbours. You charge an entry free, sell cakes and hold a raffle.
Winter party
Get busy making some mulled wine and cheese fondue and invite all your friends over for a warm and
toasty winter party, ask them for a donation in return for the fabulous company and hospitality!
Sponsor your boss to make tea for the day
What more do we need to say, what’s not great about this idea?!
Wear a whacky woolly
Organise a day in work and ask for a donation in return for getting out their favourite jumper or hat.

for a mince pie bake off. The proof will be the pudding!
Cosy quiz night
Get your friends together and put on a winter themed quiz night down your local. All you need to do is find
some questions online, choose a quiz master, rustle up some prizes and away you go.
Winter concert or pantomime
Ask your local choir, band or theatre group to put on a winter themed concert or pantomime.
Spooky walk
Make the most of the long, dark winter nights by organising a spooky sponsored walk, finishing up in the
local pub where you can swap ghost stories.
Christmas craft fair
Organise a crafty Christmas fair and ask people for seasonal goodies you can sell – this could be anything
from baubles to mince pies, or ask local businesses to come along and make a donation.
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
You’ve probably played pin the tail on the donkey, but what about pinning the nose on Rudolph? Blindfold

The legal bit
A guide to keeping your
fundraising safe and legal
We want all our amazing supporters to stay safe and legal! Please remember it’s not
worth taking any unnecessary risks. Your local council will be able to provide relevant
information and advice on the below topics.
Health and safety
For free health and safety advice the Health and Safety Executive website is a great starting point.
First aid
Always consider first aid provision, providers include St John’s Ambulance or The British Red Cross.
Events in a public area
Remember to inform the Police and your local council well in advance when holding an event in a public
space e.g. a sponsored walk. You may find you need special permission which they’ll be able to help you with.
Suppliers
Check references, certificates and qualifications of any suppliers such as caterers, event organises or
venues before considering using them.
Food
When preparing or handling food yourself, please remember to adhere to basic rules for the safe and
hygienic preparation, cooking and storing of food. Please consult the Food Standards Agency for further
information.
Licenses
If you want to serve alcohol or live music and are not holding your event on licensed premises you will
need to apply for a temporary event licence from the council. You’ll also need a licence to serve food after
11pm. Speak to your council in advance to check requirements.
Collections
If you’d like to do a collection on private property, such as a shopping centre, you’ll need to get permission
from the owner or manager. We operate a policy of not doing any door to door selling or doorstep
canvassing so please do not attempt to ask for donations by knocking on people’s homes.
Raffles and lotteries
If you’re looking to run your own raffle or lottery in aid of us it’s important to remember they’re subject to
strict laws. To ensure your fundraising runs smoothly and legally you can get advice from the Institute of
Fundraising or the Gambling Commission.
Promotional material
When you’re fundraising for us you’re operating independently of us. If you’re preparing your own material,
you’ll need to ensure that you include our name and registered charity number. If you’d like to include our logo
just get in touch.
Please remember that if you are in any doubt about anything just contact us!
