1.0 SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the design, manufacture, testing at works, supply /
delivery&transportationof11mtrlongSteeltubularPoleconformingtoIS:2713(P‐I&
II)/1980andasamendedlatestwithMildSteelBasePlate.
2.0STANDARDS
2.1 The 11 mtr long Steel tubular Pole shall conform in all respect to the relevant
Indian/InternationalStandardSpecification,withlatestamendments.

6.Tolerances:‐
i) Outside Diameter:‐ The outside diameters of the poles shall not vary from the
appropriate value, except at the joint, by more than ±1.0
percent.
ii) Thickness :‐ Thickness shall not fall below the thickness specified by morethan10percent.
iii)Length:‐Thetoleranceonthelengthshallbeasfollows:
Onthelengthofanysection±40mm.
Ontheoveralllengthofpole±25mm.
iv)Weight:‐
Meanweightforbulksuppliesshallbenotmorethan5
percentbelowthecalculatedvalue.Theweightofanysingle
poleshallnotfallbelowthecalculatedweightbymorethan
7.5percent.
7.SwagedPoles‐Swagedpolesshallbemadeofseamlessorweldedtubesofsuitable
lengthsswagedandjoinedtogether.Nocircumferentialjointsshallbepermittedin
theindividualtubelengthsofthepoles.Ifweldedtubesareusedtheyshallhaveone
longitudinalweldseamonly;andthelongitudinalweldsshallbestaggeredateach
swagedjoint..
7.1Swagingmaybedonebyanymechanicalprocess.Theupperedgeofeachjoint
shall be chamfered off at an angle of about 45C'. The upper edge need not be
chamferedifacircum.ferentialweldistobedepositedinaccordancewith5.3.2.
7.2 Unless swaging is done by special process such as rotary or longitudinal die
swagingprocessacircumferentialweldshallbedepositedattheupperendofthe
joint (Fig. I) at a slope of approximately 45°. Thi~ circumferential weld shall be
deposited only after the poles are subjected to and conforms to all the test
requirementsspecifiedinthisstandard.

8.Protectionagainstcorrosion:‐
Thepolesshallbecoatedwithblackbituminouspaint(conformingtoIS:158/1968)
oftwocoatsthroughout,internallyandexternally,uptothelevelwhichgoesinside
theearthincluding1mabovetheearthlevel.Theworkingportionoftheexterior
shallbepaintedwithtwocoatsofredoxideprimer(conformingtoIS:2074/1979).
9.Earthingarrangements:‐
Polesshallbeprovidedwithearthingarrangementwithathroughholeof14mmdia.
whichshallbeprovidedataheightof300mmabovetheplantingdepth.
10.M.S.BasePlate:‐
M.S.baseplateasperdrawingshallhavetobeweldedtobottomportionofthepole.
Bothplanesoftheplatetobeweldedalongthecircumferenceofthebottomportion
ofthepole.Twocoatsofbituminouspaint(conformingtoISS: 158/1968)shallbe
providedonallsurfaceoftheM.S.Plate.
11.Topcap:‐
Canopy shaped plate of thickness same as that of top section of the pole shall be
providedatthetopofthepolewithproperwelding
12.Thepolesshallbemadeofweldedtubeofsuitablelength(indicatedintherelevant
ISS and enclosed drawing) swaged together and conforming to chemical
compositionandphysicalrequirementofthespecification.Thematerialtobeused
forthepolesshallbeofminimumtensilestrengthof42kgtperSqmm.
13.ChemicalComposition:‐AsperIS:228(P‐III)/1972andIS:228(P‐IX)/1975oras
amendedlatest.

4.TESTSANDTESTCERTIFICATES:
4.1Thefollowingtestsshallbeconductedonpolesafterplacedofpurchaseorder
andtestcertificatesshouldbesubmittedtothepurchaserforapproval:
A.Tensiletest,
B.Deflectiontest,
C.Permanentsettest,and
D.Droptest.
E.Physicalverificationofdimensions
4.2Numberofpolesselectedforconductingdifferenttestsshallbeinaccordanceto
clauseNo.10.1.1andNo.10.1.12:ofIS:2713(Part‐I)1980.
4.3Testsshallbecarriedoutbeforesupplyofconsignmentatthemanufacturer’swoks
andtestcertificatesshouldbesubmittedtothepurchaserforapproval.
4.4Re‐tests,ifany,shallbemadeinaccordancewithIS:2713(Part‐I)1980.
4.5 Purchaser reserves the right to inspect during manufacturing and depute his
representativetoinspect/testattheworks.
4.6Ifanyextracostisrequiredforcarryingouttheabovespecifiedtests,thesame
shallbebornebythetenderer.
5.Marking:
5.1Thepolesshallbemarkedwithdesignation,manufacturer’sidentification,yearof
manufactureandnameofthepurchaser:BHEL.
5.2ThepolesmayalsobemarkedwiththeISIcertificationmarkifapplicable
6.0GUARANTEEDTECHNICALPARTICULARS
Theguaranteedtechnicalparticularsof11mtr..longSteelTubularPoleofferedshallbe
givenbythebidderalongwiththetender.
