Access a vehicle Simply place the OPUS card you registered on top of the reader under the windshield on the driver’s side. The authentication time may vary from 3 to 15 seconds. The flashing yellow light indicates that the reader has detected your OPUS card, it stops flashing once your card has been read. A few seconds later, you’ll hear the click of the doors unlocking if the transaction has been accepted. If red light appears after you’re placed your OPUS card on the reader it mean that the vehicle is not available. Do not hesitate to try again to be sure (sometimes a communication problem or a long delay make the transaction fail). Keep a vehicle during a stopover When you turn off the engine within the zone (this information is visible at the bottom of the screen) a button appears on the screen and offers “Conserver le véhicule”. If you press on this command, you can temporarily leave the vehicle without another user taking it in the meantime. Once out of the vehicle, put your OPUS card on top of the reader to lock the doors. A yellow light indicating that the vehicle is reserved will appear. If you are outside the zone when you turn off the engine (this information is visible at the bottom of the screen), you will not need to press the screen to keep the vehicle, because it is impossible to release a vehicle outside the service area. However, it is very important to always use your OPUS card to lock the doors, otherwise anyone can leave with the vehicle. Release a vehicle at the end of your trip Simply park the vehicle on the street, where the parking signs permit, then turn off the engine. Once out of the vehicle, place your OPUS card on top of the reader to lock the doors. A green indicator light along with the doors locking will indicate that the vehicle has been released. Watch for the green indicator light. It’s the key to ending your trip without a hitch! Where to park at the end of your trip? Auto-mobile vehicles may be parked : In resident-only parking zones, in the service area (see Montreal and Quebec City maps), on curb side parking and in all non-metered parking spaces which do not have any restrictions. There are two important exceptions in Montreal: • Parking in street cleaning zones is allowed, provided that it is possible to park the car until the end of the following day (11:59 pm). • Parking in curb side Communauto stations is forbidden. These stations are identified with the following parking permit numbers: 103 (Plateau), 131 (Rosemont), 143 (CDN-NDG) and 133 (MHM). Service area Here is the exact map of the service area. At all times you will be able to see at the bottom of the screen to the left of the driver, whether you are inside the zone (“En zone”) or outside of it (“Hors zone”). You will not be able to release the vehicle (“libérer le véhicule” at the end of a trip if the screen says you are outside the zone (see How it works). Some small sectors are currently outside the zone. You must take this into account when releasing a vehicle.
