PERFORMANCES
ACCOMMODATIONS
Experience a range of New York’s musical offerings
with performances by the Metropolitan Opera and
the New York Philharmonic. Begin the weekend on
Thursday evening with an exciting orchestral program
including Rimsky-Korsakov’s glittering showpiece
Scheherazade, followed by mezzo-soprano Magdalena
Kožená’s New York Philharmonic debut as the lovestruck soloist in Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été. The following
evening, be swept away by the Metropolitan Opera’s
new production of Wagner’s breathtaking Tristan und
Isolde. This trip highlight will feature Seattle Opera
favorite Stuart Skelton as Tristan and world-renowned
Nina Stemme as Isolde. Finally, close out the operatic
journey with a matinee performance of Mozart’s telling
of the Don Juan story, Don Giovanni, with Simon
Keenlyside in the title role.
Enjoy four lovely nights at the nearby Empire Hotel,
offering sophisticated comfort and bold decor within
walking distance of Central Park and other iconic New
York landmarks.
FINE DINING
Prepare yourself
for the journey
with a pre-trip
gathering in
September,
and continue
the tradition of
great company with excellent dining options in New
York. Private dining experiences include lunch at Chef
Daniel Boulud’s vibrant Mediterranean-inspired
restaurant Boulud Sud, and a post-performance dinner
at the classical Italian institution, Café Fiorello, located
right next to Lincoln Center.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Your trip will include free time for personal
exploration of the city, as well as group activities
for a stress-free experience. The weekend includes
a guided docent tour of the Whitney Museum of
American Art, now located in a brand new building
designed by architect Renzo Piano, which
presents the full range of twentieth-century and
contemporary American art, with a special focus on
works by living artists.
