Begin the weekend on Thursday evening with an exciting orchestral program including Rimsky-Korsakov’s glittering showpiece Scheherazade, followed by mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená’s New York Philharmonic debut as the lovestruck soloist in Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été. The following evening, be swept away by the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Wagner’s breathtaking Tristan und Isolde. This trip highlight will feature Seattle Opera favorite Stuart Skelton as Tristan and world-renowned Nina Stemme as Isolde. Finally, close out the operatic journey with a matinee performance of Mozart’s telling of the Don Juan story, Don Giovanni, with Simon Keenlyside in the title role. FINE DINING Prepare yourself for the journey with a pre-trip gathering in September, and continue the tradition of great company with excellent dining options in New York. The weekend includes a guided docent tour of the Whitney Museum of American Art, now located in a brand new building designed by architect Renzo Piano, which presents the full range of twentieth-century and contemporary American art, with a special focus on works by living artists.
