The Salvation of Souls is the Supreme Law
Mission Statement
Solemnity of the Epiphany
January 5, 2014
Behold, the lord, the mighty one, has come.
We, the parish family of the
Church of Saint Aidan,
strengthened by the Eucharist and
encouraged by the Word of God, welcome all,
for we recognize that everyone is a child of
God and no one should be excluded.
Guided by the Holy Spirit through
prayer, we strive as one to build the Body of
Christ. We commit ourselves to nurturing life-long faith
formation, fostering lay leadership, promoting
social justice, engaging our youth in every
aspect of parish life, and offering care and
compassionate service to all.
We invite everyone to walk with Jesus
and experience His healing power and love.

ST. AIDAN’S ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY
Sunday, January 5th at 9:00 AM is the time to gather
for our monthly Mass for deceased Rosarians, Marie R.
Papio and Evelyn Smith. Please gather quietly in the
vestibule or be seated in the reserved pews (front left
part of the nave).
With Many Thanks
I begin my words of thanks to the many people who were involved in our pre
-Christmas programs namely the Christmas Concert and Christmas Pageant.
These beautiful programs helped to provide a wonderful atmosphere to prepare us for the coming of the Christ Child. I especially thank Drago Bubalo, our Director
of Music, Reagan Stone, Eileen Calder, John and Carol Hayes and all the Church of St.
Aidan choirs and children of the parish who participated in the various Christmas programs.
We welcomed thousands of people to the Christmas Masses and I thank the many
parishioners and staff members who made everything go so well and with such beauty.
Preparations for Christmas began, of course, many days before Christmas Eve, and I
thank my brother priests and deacons, Drago Bubalo, and all the members of the choirs
for their hard work before and during Christmas. Thanks to all the helpers who decorated
and made our church look absolutely beautiful! Father Kevin had several Christmas celebrations in the Rectory for our school and Religious Education children. I am grateful for
his interest in our young people and also his work with our altar servers.
I offer a special thanks to the maintenance team – Frank Deo, Scott Deo, Tom
Nolan, Kevin Keenan and Peter Triolo– who put up the decorations around the campus
and got Monsignor Kirwin Hall and the gym ready for Christmas. Also, many thanks to
our sacristans, especially Frank Keenan, John Hayes and Tom Flynn, and to all the parishioners who served during the services – Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and
Altar Servers.
Christmas Day also marks the end of a special season of giving aid to those in
need. The Christmas outreach of St. Aidan’s starts at home but extends also to parishes
and agencies beyond our borders, and so I thank all the parishioners and Rosemarie
Cavallaro, the Director of Parish Social Ministry, and the volunteers from PSM who enabled so many people to enjoy a merrier Christmas. I offer my thanks to the Rosarians
who took great care in preparing the altars for Christmas.
I am very aware that family responsibilities only increase during Christmastime,
and so the generous participation of staff members and parishioners during these days is
especially appreciated. I pray that God will send you a special blessing during this New
Year for your commitment to St. Aidan Parish. God bless you all!
PEANUT BUTTER GANG
Join us on Saturday, January 11th at 8:15A.M. in the East Campus cafeteria to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the
hungry and homeless on Long Island. Children under the age of
9 cannot be accommodated and those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults must have taken the Virtus Training. You have to
pre-register at our e-mail address: [email protected]. Unfortunately, due to logistics, if you do not pre-register, you cannot participate. This month
we ask each volunteer to bring a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly, and at least 2
loaves of bread. Thank you. Remember what Jesus told us, “Amen I say to you, whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40).
INCOME TAX DONATION LETTER
If you need an income tax statement for your 2013 Stewardship
donations to the parish, please call the Rectory office at (516) 746-6585

LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA
It is a New Year! We are all thinking of resolutions we plan to
start and make good on the next 12 months. Some of you might manage
to be successful, but the rest of us will be wise to take some baby steps. If
your list includes SPIRITUAL GROWTH take a look at practices that
will stretch your soul in 10 minutes a day, and be easy to follow. Here is
a list for you to adopt: Attending Mass more often, saying the Rosary daily, get to Adoration frequently, read daily scripture readings, go to Confession regularly. I know what you are thinking
that you are going to start all or most of these resolutions and then before March you abandon
most of them! Instead of trying to do too much, first try a little! See what is possible to do in between the demands of your daily life, and commit your time to doing it faithfully. The purpose
of all of these practices are simply to spend time with God. Praying in the presence of Christ,
who is always with us, is to recognize and appreciate the presence of God during the regular
events of your day.
I hope you were able to read and follow Pope Francis’ homilies for the last two weeks. The Holy
Father preached at the vigil Mass for Christmas and focused on the importance of Jesus’ incarnation as a real and meaningful event. “The grace which was revealed in our world is Jesus, born
of the Virgin Mary, true man and true God. He has entered our history; He has shared our
journey. He came to free us from darkness, and revealed the mercy and the tender love of the
Father; Jesus is LOVE incarnate. He is the meaning of life and history who has pitched His
tent in our midst.”
A very simple and beautiful way to recognize the presence of God in our midst. God lowers
Himself, coming down to earth as little and poor, and to be similar to Him we must not place ourselves above others, but rather lower ourselves, place ourselves in service, make ourselves small
with the small, poor with the poor.
God speaks to us through His Son. He continues to speak to us today through His Church and His
Word. Help the world hear what He has to say, listen to the teachings of the informative CDs we
have in our kiosks, and pass them along to those that will not be able to hear such important insights. Last year, thanks to your effort, was an amazing year. We distributed over 7000 CDs!
and next year promises to be even more amazing. I thank you, as always, for your generosity. I
pray that God blesses you and all those you love during this Holy Season!
A blessed and healthy NEW YEAR!!!

lives. The time around the Christmas Season is traditionally a
time when blood supplies become extremely low in our region,

for the upcoming Super Bowl, we could experience a critical
shortage. Each donor will be entered into a drawing for two Super Bowl tickets.
