Thank you to those who participated in one of the
oldest Kent County traditions — the Cannon Pool Independence Day Bike Parade! Members enjoyed themselves as the artfully decorated bikes followed the
Sweet Dreams Ice Cream Truck and were followed by
the Cannon Township Fire Department.
Department After the
parade members were treated to free ice cream,
sponsored by the Pool. United Bank graciously sponsored a hot-dog meal (with chips and a drink) provided by the Snack Shack.
After the food members were
cooled off by the Cannon Township Fire Department. The kids
reveled in the spray of the firehose and were disappointed
when it was over. Fortunately it
was time to be entertained by
DeeJay the Clown!

S NAC K S HACK
As EVERYONE is aware the Snack Shack is open
for business. What you might not know is that
the Snack Shack offers a full lunch and dinner
menu. Meals range from hot dogs to salads
and wraps and are priced very reasonably. Go
ahead, make it a full day at the Cannon Pool
and don’t worry about the dishes.
If you do bring your own food or have it delivered please make sure you clean up your area.
We’ve had some problems with folks leaving a
mess. If you ask Sue, behind the counter, for
something to wipe off the table, I’m sure she’ll
provide one.

folks involved. Positions include President, Secretary, Treasurer,

nator, Volunteer Coordinator. Full-time board members received
their following year membership free of charge. So, if you are on
the board in 2009 you’ll receive a free membership in 2010.

F I N A N C E U P DAT E
We’re mid-way through the 2008 season and the pool is fair financial shape. That is to say the board is watching every penny
and due to capital expenditures (painting & baby pool split) there
won’t be a whole lot of money left in the bank at the end of the
year. What isn’t a “whole lot of money”? The Cannon Pool liquid
assets (bank account) will likely only have a few hundred dollars
in it at the close of the season. This is as close to a financial crisis as the pool has been. Thankfully, due to the tireless efforts of
the Cannon Pool Board Members this has also been one of the
Pool’s best years in recent memory.
The Pool currently has about $38,000 in the bank and we’re estimating expenditures for the remaining part of the year at
$40,000. We hoping to defer some payments into early 2009.
The 2009 board will be looking at ways to increase revenue and
trim expenses. Expense trimming will be challenging as the pool
facilities (locker rooms) are due for some significant updates, like
a new roof. Increasing revenue can come in different forms, but
the primary vehicle is membership dues. The Board will also be
discussing the use of “work bonds” to help lower dues AND labor
Expenses.
