WHAT IS PCVC?
The Filipino-American Community of
Ventura County is pursuing all efforts
to acquire its own community building,
hence the “Philippine Center Ventura
County, a nonprofit public benefit
corporation was formed. The community
is hopeful that this project being a
nonprofit, will be able to appeal to some
philanthropists and also eligible for
Federal and other Grants for financial
support. This Center is envisioned to
serve the Fil-Am Community in many
ways, but not limited to: (a) Supporting
the youth of our community by
developing and nurturing their talents
in order that they may become better
citizens. (b) Providing various charitable
services to the disadvantage, the veterans
of our region, especially our seniors.
(c) Preserving our Filipino Culture and
Heritage, through education, language
skills development and special
presentation of Filipino Arts.
(d) Fostering solidarity and growth
among Filipino-Americans in order to
improve our standing in the community.
The general idea is that the “PCVC
Development Committee” will work with
the local Filipino-American
organizations to raise seed money in
addition to the approved resolution of the
Filipino-American Council of Ventura
County; that all Fil-Am organizations
who have the means may pledge a
minimum of $1,000.00 annually, towards
the building fund. Furthermore, the
PCVC will be self sustaining, therefore;
it may have some employment
opportunities for the Fil-Am community.
Yes, we understand that this is a long
term effort, but because of its overall cost
it has to be approach this way to make it
more feasible. After all, the only way to
get somewhere is to get started
sometimes, somehow, but most of all;
through the cohesive efforts from all of
us.

JAMSPORTS...
PCVC Secretary, Sonia...
These types of recreational activities give
individuals a chance to further develop
their own skills as well as learn a
teamwork-minded attitude.
When working as a team toward a
common goal, the personal sense of
accomplishment is different but just as
important as individual successes.
In keeping with their goal to provide a
fun recreational outlet for the community,
Jamsport has helped many individuals
look at this as an opportunity to maintain
and even improve their current level of
physical fitness. With close to 30 teams in
4 different divisions already in place, and
future plans to provide the same for even
younger kids, Jamsport aims to engage the
entire community young and old.
Games are played at Pacifica High
School’s gym on Sundays. The different
teams are competing for crucial playoff
positioning as the current season comes to
an end, Jamsport Ventura County together
with PCVC will be holding an Awards
Night to celebrate and recognize the top
teams and individual standouts in each
division. As team sports encourage working together, the dream of one day having
our very own Philippine Center of Ventura
County will definitely take a dedicated
team effort.
For Jamsport’s schedule of games and
more information please contact Hector
Ligsay at 805-223-4332
She is usually seen in her native Filipino
costume ready to perform or preparing her
students to put on their best performance.
She feels nurturing the Filipino culture
for those who are born and raised here in
America, will continue to preserve their
national identities within the assimilating
culture, and not lost sight of their parents’
heritage. She believes in the importance
of teaching and exposing our culture is a
must to our present generation and future
generations to come.
