One of my most favorite Lama Events!
3.14... There has been a tradition in Lama to celebrate Pi Day on March 14th. (3/14) Before I heard that we had to study pi I already had taken an interest in it because of a song I heard on pi. It made me want to memorize pi to its fullest. I learned more than I thought I would being able to get 5th place by memorizing 79 digits. This brought me closer to my friends because I would talk to them about pi day and we would help each other memorize more and more. During the week of pi day some of our classes were pi themed meaning that math was all pi problems, science was about Jinding them circumference and radius. We even made a pi bracelet in math! It was so fun. (The hardest part was tying the elastic string... I was pretty good at it) I loved eating the pie on the last day of the pi week. It was deliciously scrumptious. Since I made the top ten the teachers even through us a party with pizza... It was a PIZZA PARTY :D
Math Problem!
You have a square with a circle inside of it. The radius of this circle is 11 inches. The length of the side of the square is 26 inches. Find the area outside of the circle. After that give me the perimeter for the square. Use 3.14 for pi. Round to nearest whole number.
First Jind the circumference by using C=πr²
Standard & Concept
(π • 11² = C) (3.14 • 121 = 379.94)
Now Find the area of the square
26² = 676
Now subtract the circumference from the area of the square
676 - 379.94 = 296.06
