Welcome to Leigh Place
We would like to give a warm welcome to our new residents that have joined
us at Leigh Place. On behalf of all staff we all greet you in good grace. We
also hope that you are content and comfortable living at Leigh Place.
In November we had a number of celebrations as we are preparing for
Christmas. We began with our Melbourne Cup celebrations and sweeps,
honoured our soldiers with Remembrance Day Morning Tea and service and
ended with the Catholic Church Christmas party. We also had a Christmas
themed dog show and thoroughly enjoyed all the cute dogs performing their
clever tricks!
December marks the end of a long year and with Christmas around the
corner, we are looking forward to celebrating this special time with our
loved ones at Leigh Place. We have a host of activities in this festive month!
Christmas Carols by Candlelight with Kristy Lee, Christmas Lights Bus
Tour, Christmas Library Morning Tea, volunteer’s Thank You Morning Tea
and of course, our Special Christmas Lunch!
Please refer to your activity calendar for times of all the wonderful activities
we have planned!

Communication Book
Just a reminder to all residents that
we will have a new communication
book system in place of the signing
in/out system. This is in case you
cannot find a carer to notify them
of your absence at Leigh Place. This
is due to fire regulation rules and to
ensure resident’s safety. Thank you
for your consideration.
If you have a movie request, please
speak to the Leisure and Lifestyle
Team so we can organise it for
Saturday at the Movies!

Halloween BBQ Lunch

November Birthdays/Happy Hour
We combined our November Birthdays with our Happy Hour this month. We
celebrated all residents with a birthday in November with some mini hot dogs,
nibblies - chips and dips and of course, a chocolate birthday cake!
Thank you to everyone who showed to help us celebrate our resident’s birthdays!
We hope you enjoyed your day and all your celebrations!
5
Remembrance Day
November marks the month of remembering and honouring our brave soldiers
who fought for our country. Due to cases of gastroenteritis, we were unable to
hold our service on Remembrance Day. However we held a morning tea followed
by a ceremony to mark this special day the next week. Due to our delayed
Remembrance Day ceremony we had the privilege of Gary Grant (Harald’s
son) lend us his beautiful poppy sculpture! This sculpture was unique as in the
very centre held a special vial. In each vial contained authenticated sand from
the shores of Albany at the point where our soldiers left Australian soil before
embarking on the Gallipoli campaign. The vials also contained a needle from the
pine tree from Yarralumla Nursery in Canberra, whose ancestor was the original
Lone Pine in Gallipoli. Gary organised vials to be presented to each resident by
the RAOs so we can all have a special memento of Remembrance Day.

enjoying myself.

Getting To Know You
Questions for Seini.
Every month we will get to know one
of our staff a bit better. This month we
have
What is your role at Leigh
Place?
Carer.
Seini!
How long have you been at
Leigh Place?
Since March – so 8 months.
Tell us about your family and

I have 3 daughters. I grew up with 6
brothers and 1 sister. I’m the eldest.
What is your favourite activity?
Taking the kids out, being involved
in the community and spending time
with friends.
What is your favourite memory?
When I was 7, my granddad took
me fishing on a boat early in the
morning. Afterwards, we sat down
on the beach and ate the fish raw!
Grandad prepared it and told me
if I ate fish I would be a smart girl.
That’s the only reason why I ate it
because I used to hate fish!

Staff Thank You
Last month we unfortunately had some cases of gastroenteritis. We had to cease
all activities this week which unfortunately coincided with Remembrance Day.
We would like to take the time to thank the residents for their patience and
understanding during this time. This also resulted in additional workload for our
staff and we would like to take the time to say a very big THANK YOU to the
following staff members for stepping up, being a great team player, and putting in
extra hard work to ensure our residents were well looked after. Gillian (Clinical
Care Manager) would like to express her gratitude to all staff members for
working hard together, but in particular:
Sonia, Katrina, Paddy, Francheska, Ali, Seini, Rosa, Elizabeth, Anita, Gladyz & Terry.

Summer is Coming
Speed Limit
And that means that it is going to get
hot! We want to make sure that you
are safe and cool this summer.
Just a reminder that the speed limit
in the facility is 10kms to ensure
the safety of our residents and staff.
Thank you for your co-operation..
Here are a few handy tips to stay cool
this summer:
•Check the weather forecast to see
when the hot days are coming
•If it is predicted that the weather
is going to be hot plan to do any
outdoor activities or outings early
in the morning or later in the
afternoon
•Drink fluids! It is recommended
that you drink at least 8 cups of
water based fluids a day (unless
your doctor has said otherwise)
Medicare Cards and
Pension Cards
Just a friendly reminder if your (or
your loved one’s) Medicare and/
or Pension Card has expired and
you have received a new one, please
bring it down to Reception to be
photocopied for your file. Thank you
for your co-operation.
•Keep your caffeine consumption
to a minimum as this causes
dehydration
•Tell the staff if you are feeling
unwell particularly if you have been
outside
•Use your air conditioner to cool
your room
•Ask for an Ice Block: we have them
available in the freezers.
•Don’t use fans in a hot room: all
this does is blow the hot air around
and does not cool the room.
14
Parking!
Please note that there is to be no
parking along the pathways outside
houses or within the roundabout.
Please only park in the designated
spaces. Additionally parking is
available on Skinner Avenue. Thank
you for your understanding.
Christmas Lunch

We will be hosting a special catered
lunch for all residents on the 18th at
12pm in the community room. We

to choose their own books. This
service runs on the first and second
Thursday of the month. If you are
interested please let Sally (librarian)
or Carmen (Leisure and Lifestyle
Manager) know.
Christmas Lights Bus
Trip
We will be hosting a special Christmas
lights bus trip on the 18th at 7.30pm.
We will be driving around our local
area to view all the beautiful Christmas
lights. We hope you can join us on this
special trip!
