Barbara Stahl, PhD - Education
Selma Deitch, MD - Medicine & Healing

Dr. Stahl received her A.B from Wellesley College,
M.A. from Radcliffe College and Ph.D. from
Harvard University. Dr. Stahl, Professor of Biology
at St. Anselm College since 1954, has mentored
countless number of students over the years. She
received the American Advisory University
Faculty Award from St. A’s in 1974 for excellence
in teaching. Dr. Stahl has been a Trustee at the
Derryfield School since 1964. She sits on the
Institutional Review Board for CMC, is a member
of the NH Commission on Courtroom Safety and a
board member for the NH Social Welfare Council.
Some of Dr. Stahl’s honors include Albany Advisor
for Girls, Alumna of the Year 1993, Outstanding Advisor of the Year,
Northeast Regional U.S., and National Academic Advising Association
1985. She has written numerous publications and participated in a number
of symposiums and conferences internationally. Dr. Stahl resides in
Manchester with her husband, Dr. David Stahl.
Dr. Deitch received her M.D. from Tufts Medical
School. She began her career in 1953 with the
opening of her own private practice in pediatrics
in Needham, MA. From there she became Director
for the Pediatric Out Patient Department at Boston
Dispensary, affiliated with Boston Floating
Hospital. In 1965, Dr. Deitch came to New
Hampshire and directed the planning and
development of statewide programs for child
health care, family planning services,
demonstration programs for prenatal care and
comprehensive child care. She founded and was
Clinical Director of Child Health Services from
1976 – 2001. She has been on numerous boards, advisory committees and
panels throughout the years. Her honors include but are not limited to:
Woman of the Year 1987, Citizen of the Year 1988, Advocate of the Year 1992,
Susan B. Anthony Award 1993, and President’s Certificate for Outstanding
Service – AAP 1999. She has received honorary degrees from Notre Dame
College, St Anselm College and NH College. She resides in Manchester.
Christopher J. Emerson - Religion
Michael C. Whitney - Business and Industry

Christopher J. Emerson is Senior Pastor of First Congregational Church,
Manchester, where he has served since 1993. A graduate of Williams College
(1970) and Harvard Divinity School (1974), he was ordained into the
Christian Ministry with the United Church of Christ in 1974.
Chris was a member of the Leadership/New Hampshire Class of 1999. For
six years he was President of Manchester Urban
Ministry and helped launch the semi-annual
downtown block parties, has led Christmas caroling for six years, and helped start an ecumenical,
cooperative Christian Education program at the
Salvation Army. He worked with the Hanover St.
Coalition for two years, served on the Board of
Directors of New Horizons, served as President of
the Greater Manchester Clergy Association and is
currently Protestant Chaplain with the
Manchester Fire Department. He wrote and
directed the 2001 Firefighter Follies. He is married
to The Rev. Judith Copeland and they have three
children.
Mr. Whitney began his banking career with Fleet
in 1978 as a credit trainee in commercial banking.
In 1993, after holding a variety of positions, he was
appointed President and CEO of Fleet – New
Hampshire.
A graduate of Keene State College (1974), Mr.
Whitney also holds an MBA from The Whittemore
School of Business and Economics (1978) at the
University of New Hampshire.
In addition to his banking experience, Mike is
committed to many civic organizations. He is a
member of Junior Achievement of New Hampshire Advisory Council,
Chairman of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, a director of
the New Hampshire Bankers Association, and Chairman of the Alexis de
Tocqueville Committee of the United Way of New Hampshire. His son,
Matthew, is a student at UNH and his daughter, Gretchen, is a student at
Providence College. Mike lives in Manchester with his wife, Ellen.
Elizabeth Orton Jones - Media & The Arts

Author, artist and illustrator Elizabeth Orton
Jones was born in Highland Park, Illinois. She
wrote and illustrated her first book, Ragman of
Paris and his Ragamuffins in 1937. In 1945, she
received the Caldecott Medal, awarded annually
for the best illustrated children’s book, for Prayer
for a Child. She traveled to NH on a business trip
and was captured by the beauty and decided to
stay. She now resides in Mason which is where
an old house served as a model for the Golden
Book, Little Red Riding Hood. Elizabeth Orton Jones
is known to many as Twig, after the name of one
of her books, first published in 1942. Her book
Big Susan, was republished August of this year.
In her Caldecott Medal acceptance speech, Twig commented: “Drawing is
very like a prayer. Drawing is reaching for something away beyond you.
As you sit down to work in the morning, you feel as if you were on top of a
hill. And it is as if you were seeing for the first time.”
Jean Jeudy - Public Service
Introduced by Regis Lemaire, Good Samaritan Alumni 2000
Jean Jeudy has been an advisor and leader in the Haitian community in
Manchester since he arrived in 1983. For years he has served his
community as a youth and adult advisor and a court and medical
interpreter. Mr. Jeudy speaks French, Creole and English. Three years ago he
helped found the Haitian Community Center of NH and is currently the
Vice President. The Community Center provides a social network for
Haitians while they adjust to life in NH.
Mr. Jeudy has received certificates in television
production and journalism. He hosts a weekly
television program, TV Palmiste, where he reports
on Haitian news, cultural issues and community
education. He has also worked in the Haitian and
African communities as a Peer Educator with the
NH Minority Health Coalition, teaching these
communities about health promotion and
disease prevention. He resides in Manchester
with his wife Elvire, and his two sons, Leniol and
Mike.
Special Award
In Memory and Honor of
Sister Jeannette Plante
Introduced by Dr. Sylvio Dupuis,Good Samaritan Alumni 2000
A native of Springfield Massachusetts,
Sister Jeannette Plante was born June 4,
1925. She entered the Sisters of Holy
Cross, February 14, 1944. Sister
received a Bachelor of Arts in Latin and
in History and a Masters of Arts in the
Classics.
Sister Jeannette Plante was an honored
educator and received multiple awards
for her scholarship in Latin, History,
Teaching Methodologies for Secondary
Education and her legendary courses in
Mythology. She received a vast number
of awards over the years, here are a
few: The Barlow-Beach Distinguished Service
Award from the New England Classical
Association, the Excellence in Education
(better known as the "Ed-ie" Award) from the State of New Hampshire,
multiple years in Who’s Who Among American Teachers, the Lifetime Achievement
Award from Notre Dame College Alumni Association, the first recipient of
Notre Dame’s Outstanding Faculty Member for Teaching Excellence and Campus
Leadership and from the Trustees and College Community, Sister Jeannette
was awarded an honorary doctorate in May 2001.
Throughout her years of teaching, Sister Jeannette educated students with
uncompromising zeal and passion; she taught each person she encountered
lessons for life. She did not merely serve at Notre Dame College but
embodied its mission for 34 years.
