New Clinic Update
Our Commitment on Price
We are pleased to announce that at the end of last year we received planning permission to build our new equine clinic at Sparrow Lodge Farm near Wicken.
Our mission is to provide clinical excellence at affordable and competitive prices.
We envisage building starting by the end of March and to be complete in the Autumn. We are in the lucky position that we have our
existing clinic until August 2013. Therefore we can have phased and
planned transition from our present location to Sparrow Lodge
Farm.
The new clinic will provide a home for the Practice’s long term future and will give us continuing stability. The clinic has been designed to provide 21st century equine veterinary care but with a
close eye on efficiency to provide a service that is affordable for all.
We hope to further develop the clinic in the future as the Practice
continues to expand.
Through these hard economic times we feel it is essential that we
respond to the financial limitations of our clients. For this reason
our prices have remained static since January 2011 and we predict
no need to increase them in the foreseeable future.
What’s more, even with our investment in our new clinic, prices
(professional services) should remain unchanged as planned efficiencies will offset development costs. We have made our drug/
consumables prices more competitive over the last year and we will
continue to strive to get the best prices for our customers.
For more information of current Practice offers, keep an eye on our
seasonal adverts.
Facebook
Our new Facebook site goes from strength to strength. This social
media site allows us to inform clients of news, important events,
special offers and photos of our daily lives.
Philip has been busy planning our new clinic and
writing the medicine chapters in the BHS veterinary manual.
He recently attended the annual European College
of Equine Internal Medicine conference in Edinburgh. This was a very informative gathering,
drawing parallels with ailments in human medicine to common equine diseases such as liver
scarring and lung infections.
He has recently been invited to give a lecture to
vets on respiratory disease in September at the
prestigious British Equine Veterinary Association
meeting. He will also be delivering a webinar to
vets on infectious disease in the near future. His
new dog Grouse keeps him busy and is an important part of the Practice’s suppot team!

Andy has settled into BEV directorship and is
enjoying the new challenges involved. He continues his interest in equine lameness and is currently undertaking a 6 week online course on radiography (x-rays). He’s recently had articles published
in equine magazines on Foot Health and Horse
Parasites.
He also finds time to run the Practice’s Facebook
page and enjoys communicating with those supporting BEV through social networking. If you
have a chance become a ‘fan’ and find out our
latest news.
Andy’s has recently become engaged to his partner Helen. They are both looking forward to moving into a new house in Deanshanger.
Jane has been relishing her new found freedom as
consultant to the practice. Now working 3 days a
week (Mon, Wed, Fri) she is still able to offer her
vast experience of equine veterinary care as well
as pursue her interests outside of work.
This year she has been made chair of the Show
Committee for the Sports Horses Breeding of
Great Britain (SHB(GB)) .
She continues to be head veterinary surgeon at
Towcester Race Course and recently held a meeting with Society of Saddlers on the role of thermography in saddle fitting.
By popular demand Jane will be giving BEV’s first
client evening presentation on ‘Bits & Bitting’ in
March. See overleaf for details.

BEV: The story so far
BEV’s first client evening...
BEV has been trading since 1st September 2011 and the last few
months have flown by. In many ways it has been business as usual
and we have been overwhelmed by support from old and new clients a like—thank you for your support. It is very much appreciated.
With a view to continually improve our communication with our
clients we have launched our own Facebook page and attached a
blog to our website. The blog has fact sheets and/or talks given by
members of our team. You can either check the entire entries or
look at each vet’s individual entries. Have a look online at:

BHS Veterinary Manual
Philip in his spare time has been revising the British Horse Society’s
Veterinary Manual. The first edition was written by the Practice’s
senior consultant, Stewart Hastie, and for many years has been the
bible of veterinary care for horse owners nationwide.
The chapters revised or newly commissioned include laminitis, equine metabolic syndrome, equine cushings disease, body condition
scoring, atypical myopathy, equine grass sickness and yard biosecurity. The book’s second edition should hopefully be published in the
Spring/early Summer.

Vaccination Special Offer
After the success of the vaccination special offer last autumn we are
pleased to announce that we will be running this again in April of
this year. The offer is provided in association with the vaccine manufacturing company, MSD.
For any horse who has lapsed on his/her vaccination, if you restart
the course you will get the second vaccination for FREE. Speak to
one of our vets or one of our ever-helpful receptionist staff for
more details.
New Equipment
In order to enhance the services we provide, we
have recently purchased some new veterinary
equipment.
A new portable computed x-ray generator enables
us to perform on yard radiographs. For shots of
feet, as pictured, digital images can be produced
and e-mailed to farriers or owners, so treatments
can be better understood and developed.
We’ve also purchased a brand new telemetric
Electrocardiogram (ECG), which examines the
rhythms of the horses heart. Many abnormal
rhythms only occur at exercise (causing poor performance) or for small periods throughout the day.
Our new machine will allow Philip to examine the
horses heart rhythm at exercise or at rest over a
24hr period.
