LAST NIGHT
The AppleSox were on the wrong end of a walk off at Borleske
Stadium for the third time in 2015...dating back to last season, the
AppleSox have been walked off at Walla Walla in four of their last
nine games...another game was decided by one run, as the Sweets
scored sixth in the bottom of the eighth to win 8-7, July 15, 2014...
the AppleSox had just five hits and one RBI (courtesy of Mitchell
Holland)...Micael Taylor earned a tough no-decision after leaving
the game as the potential winning pitcher...threw seven innings of
seven-hit, one-run baseball...Sweets are 4-2 on the season series.
SHORT END OF THE STICK
Wenatchee has played each of its last five games to a one-run finish...the AppleSox are 2-3 over that stretch and have already set
a record for number of one-run league games played and overall
one-run games played, by percentage (both over 40%...see Bruce’s
Baseball Blurbs for more info)...the AppleSox also now have played
six of their last seven games with the Sweets to a one run finish...
the AppleSox are 1-6 in those seven games and have suffered three
heart-breaking walk off losses at Borleske Stadium this season...
the AppleSox have played 11 one-run games this season, and two
2-run games, with six of their games this season being decided in
the game’s final at bat...Wenatchee is 1-5 in games decided in the
final at bat...the lone win was in non-league play...0-5 in league walk
offs.
TAYLOR’S TWO
Micael Taylor, last night’s AppleSox starter is working on the best
two-game stretch of any AppleSox pitcher...over the last two games
(one relief, one start), Taylor has thrown 13.1 innings and given up
only one earned run...he has eight strikeouts to four walks, and has
dropped his ERA from a 10.80 to a 4.57.

AROUND THE WEST COAST LEAGUE: WEEK OF: June 22 - June 28
INDIVIDUALS
WHO’S HOT: Patrick Flynn, BEN: 4HR, 11RBI, 7R, 9-18 at the plate, for the South Division leading Elks this past week
WHO’S NOT: David Geary, WW: Last week in 6 games: 1-16, 3K...hitting .157 on the season
TEAMS
WHO’S HOT: Bend Elks: Went on a 10-game winning streak, tied for a team-best...lead the league in wins (17), RBI (166), H (272), 2B (55)
WHO’S NOT: Corvallis Knights: 2-8 over their last ten games, ten games back of Bend, leading the WCL South Division
LAST WEEK’S BIG PICTURE:
Bend kept winning with double-digit offensive performances...they now have scored ten or more runs in ten games this season, and have won each of
those ten games...the Elks only lost one game last week, 10-6 to Cowlitz on Sunday...the Kelowna Falcons also regained the lead in the WCL East after
taking two from the Pippins in a double-header Sunday...Kelowna and Yakima Valley have completed their regular season meetings for 2015.
THIS WEEK’S STORYLINE:
This week, the South and the East Divisions desperately need to move up in races that are slipping away...the AppleSox and Sweets each need to get
going, and will face each other for three games at Borleske Stadium...Bend is looking to expand its WCL South lead, as they take on the Klamath Falls
Gems for three games...the Gems own the worst record in the WCL, and Corvallis is idle in league play until July 3.
