Brentwood 2017 Outdoor Soccer - Newsletter ● Soccer Registration – The 2017 Brentwood Outdoor Soccer Registration is from February 1 to 28, 2017. Late registrations will be accepted if space is available; late fees of $10 per registration will apply. Early registrants have the opportunity to select preferred volunteer duties and dates. Please go online at www.brentwoodcommunity.com to register. This is recreational, community level soccer for 3 to 18 year olds and is open to all. ● Soccer Volunteer Requirements – When you register, you will be asked to choose a volunteer role. An important role that needs to be filled is that of U10 and up coordinator. This person will monitor the registrations for the U10 and up age groups; be the Brentwood contact person for the NWCS and ICHL, the organizations that coordinate the U10 teams and the U12 and up teams, respectively; and make sure that all U10 and up teams have enough coaches. Volunteers are also needed to be the field coordinator, and field crew members at Brenner, Brentwood and Coffin Fields. In this role, you will perform the initial field lining and maintain the lines throughout the season, and for Super Soccer Saturday. In addition, coordinators are required for organizing referees, soccer photos, Super Soccer Saturday (June 24, 2017), and the U12 Tournament (June 23-25, 2017). If you are interested in any of the above roles, please contact Lindsey Rostoker at [email protected]. Volunteers are also needed to be head coaches or assistant coaches. Another way to earn volunteer credits is by working a maintenance or concession shift at the Brentwood Sportsplex Arena. The monies saved by having program participants work the shifts rather than hiring them out is reflected in the registration fees for all programs that the Brentwood Community offers. If these shifts have to be hired out, then all program costs would increase to cover the cost of these roles. ● Soccer Season o o o o o o o U4 Mixed - starts April 18; and runs every Tuesday until June 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Dr. Coffin School or Brentwood School fields (for all practices/scrimmages). SOCCER 2017 NEWSLETTER 2 Brentwood 2017 Outdoor Soccer - Newsletter ▪ o ● Team Selections o o o o ● Evaluations are mainly to identify the strong (experienced/skilled) players from the rest of the field. This is done to ensure that kids with strong skills are evenly distributed among teams. U10/U12 Girls, U14 Girls/Boys, and U16/18 Mixed - no evaluations will be required; designated coach will contact players prior to the week of April 17. Coaches will conduct team selections for U4, U6, U8, U10, and U12 on Wednesday,, April 12 at 6:30 pm in the old Skate Shack (small building by the Brentwood Community Garden, corner of Bearspaw Dr. and 33 St. NW). Teams are selected based on player evaluations, and where possible children will be placed with a friend. In addition, every effort will be made to keep siblings who are in U4, U6 and U8 on the same fields. In the interest of maintaining balanced teams, and due to field availability, it may not be possible to honor every placement request. All players (U4 – U16/18) will be notified of their team placements by their designated coach before April 17. In addition, information will be provided online via the Brentwood Community website (http://www.brentwoodcommunity.com/soccer.html). An email will be sent out advising families of how and when to access this information. Equipment Distribution - If you have any outstanding equipment from last season or seasons past, please gather it up and return it. Every jersey or pair of shorts, or ball, or field equipment not returned costs the program money. Thanks! A coach from each team is responsible to pick up equipment at the Skate Shack (small building by the Brentwood Community Garden, corner of Bearspaw Dr. and 33 St. NW). Equipment distribution date will be in early April, (the exact date TBD). The head coach is responsible for picking up the equipment or designating an assistant coach to do so. Any questions should be directed to Melanie Dewar at [email protected]. ● Player Responsibilities - Shin pads must be worn in order to play (no exceptions). Players should dress for the weather, wear runners or soccer cleats, and bring a water bottle. Snacks can either be provided by a parent (each practice/game someone brings snack for the team – this is typical for U4, U6 and U8 teams), or individual players bring their own snacks. If older players come to the field on their own, or are dropped off, ensure an emergency contact person/number is provided. ● U10, U12, U14, and U16/18 Referees – We now have a Referee Coordinator for the 2017 season! There will be a free Referee clinic on Saturday April 8, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm for U10-U16/18 referees. Please register at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c4faeae2ea7fb6-referee. If you have any questions please contact Daniel Edelshaim at [email protected] ● Photos - Team photos will take place at the Brentwood Community Association on Sunday, May 28 between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. If the weather is good, pictures will be outside, if not, pictures will be inside. Your team’s photo time will be communicated once the schedule is established. The photo retake time is Monday, May 29 at 7:00 pm at the Brentwood Community Association. If you have any questions, please contact Stacey Watson at [email protected].
