Product specifications
Name
: Foliar Lattice with Linear Sulphanate, Iron Chelate and Nitrogen
Mode of action : Physical
Formulation type : Aqueous solution
Packing Units
1 litre bottles and 5 litre container.
Four different modes of action:
1 SBI is effective against a wide range of important pest
species through its physical mode of action causing
insect wax particles to stick together resulting in the
immobilisation and death of the pest through starvation.
2 Washing off active spores.
3 Increasing the overall resistance of the plant due to the
presence of urea and iron chelates. (leaf fertilizer)
4 The wetting and spreading properties of SBI provide for a
uniform distribution and attachment on the crop.
As a number of chemicals are no longer available and because of the growing resistance of pests to many of
the remaining chemical products then the options for control are becoming more restrictive. The introduction
of SBI is welcome and timely as the formulation is not only very effective but also due to its physical mode of
action, pests cannot become resistant. Whitefly
Whitefly is a pest that is becoming very difficult to control. The existing
chemicals mostly target the larvae and eggs. By adding SBI to these
chemicals the adults are targeted at the same time. Using a tank mix with
SBI in this way avoids the need for additional spray applications. It is not
necessary to add adjuvants due to the excellent wetting and spreading
properties of SBI. The additional nutritional stimulus in SBI improves the
plants resistance to attack. The no chemical residue properties of SBI
reduce the chemical loading on the crop.
Dead whitefly adult after treatment with SBI.
During low pest pressure the product can also be sprayed solely which
reduces the use of chemicals and avoids resistance among insects.
Mealybug
SBI breaks down the “fluffy/waxy“ coating
Generally difficult to control because they feed in hidden parts of the plant
which makes spraying more challenging. They also have a protective
“fluffy/waxy“ coating that provides them with additional protection. Due to
all this when spraying against these insects an adjuvant is always added
to the spraying solution. When SBI is sprayed it is not necessary to add
an adjuvant because of the excellent wetting and spreading properties of
SBI. Two modes of action for controlling these insects are combined. SBI breaks down the protective waxy layer and then a further SBI application will cause a sticky waxy layer to
develop around the insect which will trap and kill it.
Tank mixing SBI with other chemicals will increase the effectiveness of these chemicals in many situations.

Curative and preventative activity against powdery mildew.
In roses, Powdery Mildew is becoming increasingly difficult to control due
to the resistance of the pathogen to many existing chemicals. SBI washes
the active mildew spores off the leaf area and improves the resistance of
the crop against this fungus. After spraying with SBI the plant stays free of
fungi for a longer period of time and as a result the use of chemicals can
be reduced. SBI works both curative and preventative against powdery
mildew.
Integrated Pest Management
Powdery mildew on rose.
After SBI has been applied and is wet on the leaf it is very active in
controlling the pest /fungal target however after the deposit dries then natural enemies can be immediately
introduced into the crop. Experience has shown that SBI is safe to use in the presence of predatory mites such
as; Phytoseiulus persimilis, Amblyseius cucumeris, Amblyseius swirskii, and Hypoaspis miles. SBI has a very
mild effect on Macrolophus and Orius. Parasitic wasps are safe in their mummified form.
Dosage
The standard dosage is 0.2% (200 ml in 100 litres of water, or 6.67 oz in 26.41 gal)
The product works by means of contact, and should therefore be sprayed with sufficient water volume in order
to reach the pests. It is not advised to apply through low volume techniques or by means of drip irrigation.
Application
SBI can be applied to both protected and outdoor
crops. SBI can be applied to most edible and
non -edible ornamental plants. Avoid spraying on
open flowers or in high temperature or very sunny
conditions particularly under protection. It is always
advisable to test a small area of a new crop when
using SBI for the first time.
Mixing with chemicals
It is not necessary to add adjuvants or other solutions
to the tank when spraying SBI. Adding SBI to the
nematodes Steinernema feltiae (nemasys f) to
improve wetting and spreading of the solution is
highly advised because it strengthens its effect
considerably. A lot of experience has been gained
with mixing this product with insecticides or
fungicides. In many cases the effectivery of these
chemicals was improved after adding SBI.

Experiences from growers
Whitefly
In several crops such as rose, gerbera, poinsettia,
strawberry, tomato, and cucumber, very good results
have been obtained with controlling whitefly. During
low pest pressure good results are achieved by
solely spraying SBI. During high pest pressure great
results have been obtained in short notice when SBI
was mixed with other chemicals.
Powdery Mildew
By now SBI is already widely used in roses in a
very successful way. Experience shows that the
plants are more sensitive in winter and therefore a
lower dosage is being advised during this period of
time. (100-150 ml, or 3.38-5.07 oz)
Mealybug
The best results with SBI are being achieved mixing
the product with existing chemicals. Adding SBI
increases the effect of the application and this effect
is clearly visible. It has also become apparent that
SBI has a long lasting effect on mealybug. In green
and flowering plants, tomato, rose, and gerbera,
mealybug is already controlled effectively using this
method.
