Jamaica 50th Independence Celebrations:
‘Welcome to Kingston’ Poster Competition 2012
Poster Competition Rules
Theme: “Welcome to Kingston Jamaica”
Deadline Date: 2012 May 25
Eligibility: Contestants must be in grades 1 – 12. The competition is open to Jamaican nationals
residing in Jamaica.
Purpose: The contest is sponsored by NMIA Airports Limited (NMIAL), a 100% subsidiary of
Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) and is designed to give Jamaican youngsters
the opportunity to be a part of Jamaica’s celebration of fifty (50) years of
independence.
Poster:
Required dimensions; 30 inches x 30inches (i.e. cartridge paper sized).
General
Rules:
1. Each contestant may submit only one (1) poster.
2. Posters created by students must be their own original artwork. Software
generated artwork, copyrighted characters (e.g. Superman) or copyrighted clip art
will not be accepted.
3. Students may use a variety of media, such as watercolor, pen, ink, crayon, chalk and
markers. The medium used should not smear. Posters selected will be on public display,
and should be easy to see or read.
4. The theme “Welcome to Kingston, Jamaica” should be clearly displayed on each
poster. Posters must be written in Standard English. Lettering for the title should
be at least one inch tall.
5. Three-dimensional or stand-up posters will not be accepted.
6. Do not put any student identification on the front of the submission. Legibly print on
the back of each submission, in the lower right hand corner; include the following:

Posters will be assessed using the following point system:
• Content = 0 – 20 points
• Appeal = 0 - 25 points
• Visual Effectiveness = 0 – 15 points
• Organisation = 0 – 15 points
• Originality = 0-25 points
Awards: Participants will be notified within thirty (30) days of the closing date their poster’s
status. Students and/or schools should not contact the NMIAL for information about the
status of their entry, unless they do not receive notification by the above stated time.
COPYRIGHT: All posters submitted will become the property of NMIAL and will
not be returned to the contestant. By entering this competition, contestants grant
irrevocable and perpetual permission and consent to NMIAL, to edit, publish or
otherwise duplicate any entry received without payment to or permission from the
author.
