The Welding Assistant will be
assisting the Welding
instructors.
QUALIFICATIONS
 NOTE: Must be able to
lift 50 lbs
 Knowledge of welding
techniques useful but
not necessary
 Prefer Welding major or
students with shop
background
OUTLINE OF DUTIES
1. Do welding projects for outside concerns
2. Grease and adjust cutting shears
3. Assist with SkillsUSA
4. Assist with high school demonstration day
5. Clean and fill water tanks
6. Clean cutting and burning area
7. Change cylinders
8. Keep tool crib organized and stocked
9. Keep welding lab neat and clean
10. Shear and cut metal for students
11. Empty and sort scrap cart
12. Bevel Pipe coupons
13. Fill rod ovens and storage racks
14. Run burning table
15. Hauling steel from outside
16. Grinding tables and cleaning machines
17. Replace burning grates
REQUIREMENTS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR WORK-STUDY
1. Eligibility for work-study is determined after you file the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA).
2. Work-study requires that you enroll for a minimum of six credit hours each semester you are
employed.
3. You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. The policy is mailed with your award
letter and is also stated in the college catalog and at Bay College’s website,
www.baycollege.edu.
HOURS AND PAY
Hours per week: The amount of hours worked depends upon the supervisor’s allocation and
your work-study award. Your supervisor will determine your schedule of hours.
Hourly wage: The hourly wage is currently minimum wage.
Pay schedule: You are paid bi-weekly based on the number of hours you work in a two week
period. Tuition, fees, books, supplies and/or housing cannot be charged against work-study
earnings.
