Brown sees
$2 billion
for pullout
TOKYO (UPI) — Defense
Secretary Harold Brown predicted
Wednesday that Congress will approve a $2 billion package to cover
withdrawal of U.S. troops from
Korea.
'
U.S. officials said Brown told
Japanese Defense Minister Asao
Mihara he "believed there would be
sufficient support to carry out the
program" after the Carter administration presents its case to
Congress.
Officials said the question was
raised -by the Japanese, who are
concerned that any weakening of
military forces in South Korea
might lead to North Korean
aggression.
While the investigation of charges
that Congressmen took bribes from
Korean lobbyists was not discussed,
officials said the talks involved
Japanese fears the U.S. pullout
might not involve a program to provide South Korea with modern
weapons to fill the gap.
Officials said Brown also told the
Japanese an American general will
remain in charge of the joint command that will be set up with the
South Koreans during the
withdrawal.

our eventual aim is to unite Angola and to free it
from Russian and Cuban domination.
"We see that as our call in Africa, to drive out

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (UPI) — ProWeftern guerrillas in Angola will establish an independent republic in the south next year even if it
means another bloody civil war, a guerrilla
spokesman said Wednesday.
Jorge Sangumba, foreign affairs spokesman for
the National Union for the Total Independence of
Angola, told the Johannesburg newspaper Beeld
the guerrillas plan to cut the country just about in
half, declaring a separate republic south of the 11th
parallel.
The parallel passes near Novo Redondo on the
Atlantic coastline, about 170 miles south of the
capital of Luanda.
"The goal of the republic is not to divide Angola,"
Sangumba said in an interview. "On the contrary,
