civilisation: a group of cities with the same culture
climate: the normal weather conditions in an area
amazing: very surprising; incredible
archaeological remains: buildings, tools, bones and other objects from ancient cultures
temple: a religious building
fascinated: very interested
to flood: to cover the land with water
mud: a mixture of soil and water
fertile (land): land where plants grow well
gift: a present
desert: a large, hot, dry area of land with very few plants
crop: a plant that farmers grow, usually for food
irrigation: supplying water to the land so that crops will grow
to unite: to join; to bring together
government: a group of people that controls a country
capital city: the city where the government is
agriculture: farming; keeping animals and growing plants for food
pharaoh: a ruler (king) of Ancient Egypt
empire: a group of countries with one ruler
valley: an area of low land between hills or mountains
to conquer: to take of another country by winning a war
to found: to create a new city or town
ivory: the hard, white substance that elephant tusks are made of
bow: a weapon used for shooting arrows
