Line: Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway
Location of Accident: Nashville, Tennessee
Date of Accident: July 9, 1918
Accident Description: Head-end collision between two
passenger trains on the NC&StL Railway at Nashville,
Tennessee.
Deaths and Injuries: 87 passengers and 14 employees died, and
the injury of 87 passengers and 14 employees.
Locomotives and Trains: Engine No. 281, Train No. 1 and
Engine No. 282, Train No. 4.

Accident Description: Boiler explosion due to failure of firebox

Accident Description: Derailment of a passenger train on the
Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific Railway
Cause of Accident: This accident caused by the engine of Train
No. 6 running over a derailer, which was in the closed position.

Date of Accident: December 23, 1926
Accident Description: “Train No. 100 arrived at Rockmart at
6:35 p.m., at which point a clearance card was received stating
that the block would be clear on the arrival of train first No. 2.
After water was taken, train No. 101 proceeded southward on the
main track at a low rate of speed, waiting for train first No. 2 to
arrive and head in on the passing track at the south switch, and
had been brought nearly to a stop at appoint 803 feet north of the
switch when it was struck by train first No. 2. Both engines were
derailed…”

died June 4, 1928 at 6:30 A.M.
J. R. Hoffman of Atlanta, Georgia was severely injured with
multiple abrasions and contusions of left side of head and upper
part of body; left jaw fractured
Accident Description: Crown sheet failure – approximately the
entire area of the crown sheet was greatly overheated, the
overheated are extending to the ninth row of crown stays on the
right of center and to between the eighth and ninth rows on left
side at the front and slightly narrower at the back.
