We will be doing a “Walk the Bike Trail” where families will participate in fun games, activities and a scavenger hunt along the trail. Families are encouraged to participate together. Global Youth Service Day—Kindness Race Free—Anyone in 4-H (Leaders and youth) April 22 from 6 to 8 pm University Place 575 E University Pkwy, Orem, UT 84097 Join us for our 2nd Annual Kindness Race at University Place. Participants will get a kindness checklist and race around the mall doing service and acts of kindness. This is the perfect activity to add to your portfolio in the service section. Topaz Mountain Family Trip Free—4-H Families April 22—This is also Earth Day! Meet at 6:45 am and we will leave at 7 am and be back around 4:15 pm Meet at the 4-H office, 100 E. Center St. Suite L400 in Provo The Utah County 4-H STEM Ambassadors will be hosting a trip to Topaz Mountain. Here you will be able to collect topaz rocks with other 4-H families. The 4-H will provide a small snack. Topaz Mountain is 2 hours 15 minutes from Provo. WHO: Families are invited to carpool and attend. Youth grades 8-12 who do not have a ride can get a ride with leaders from our county. We only have spots available for the first 10 teens who sign up. BRING: A sack lunch, water, sunscreen bug repellant, rock hammer or regular hammer, screw driver, and bags for your gems. You are encouraged to bring extra cash, as we may need to stop at a rest stop along the way for refreshments and the restroom. WEAR: A hat, shoes for hiking, and jeans because you will be spending most of your time on your knees and the rocks are rough and jagged. Directions: Topaz Mountain is located in Juab County, approximately 36 miles northwest of Delta, Utah. Collection of rocks and minerals is permitted at Topaz Mountain, and the area is frequently visited by amateur as well as professional “rockhounds” (rock or mineral collectors). Return: We will leave Topaz Mountain at 2 pm and return at about 4:15 pm. Worth 1 Achievement Point. 3 4-H Friday—Cultural Night Free—Anyone in Utah County—Invite your friends! April 28 from 6 to 8 pm At the 4-H office, 100 E. Center St. Suite L400 in Provo Join families from across Utah County in a fun night! We will be holding workshops for adults on the basics of 4-H, so invite your friends who are not in 4-H to come! There will be activities for youth. If you are looking to find out more about 4-H, this is a great event to come to. This 4-H Friday theme is “Cultural Night.” DINNER will be served. Youth Activities: Activities will be held for youth K-12 and will be led by our teen council. Youth will be playing games, doing crafts, and having fun! Chef Extraordinaire Contest– Grades 3-12 April 20 from 4 to 7 pm At Oak Canyon Jr. High—111 South 725 East, Lindon Plan a menu, purchase the supplies, prepare and serve a dinner for four guests and a judge within a three hour time limit. You may compete as an individual contestant or a team of two. Higher points are given to meals that are high in vitamins, minerals and fibers. Prepare your favorite food ahead of time, give a short presentation on the dish and serve it to the judges. Demonstrations: (All grades K-12) Demonstrate on any subject you are interested in, such as Ag, Home Economics, Food, Horse, STEM, Health Living, etc. You may work individually or as a team of two. Demonstrations should not exceed 15 minutes. Click the link for more information. Smart Shopping Challenge: (All grades K-12) Select and model an outfit for a set of judges. You will also demonstrate decision making skills in selecting the most suitable of three outfits. Cosplay: (All Grades K-12) Create a costume based on any fictional character. Then, come pretend to be that character and present why you picked that character. You will be judged on things like creativity, construction of costume, and your presentation. Prepared Video Production: (All Grades K-12) Create a video for this contest! You will be judged on things like your story board, the video itself, and your presentation. The above contests are for everyone in 4-H. During contest day, Senior Level 4-H Members (9-12 grade) can also choose to do the following contests. Center, Provo April 11, May 2, June 6— from 5:30—7 pm each night Join other leaders from across the county as we discuss upcoming activities and decide how to help our program run better. All leaders and volunteers are invited to attend. Snacks will be provided! Range officers Training Cost: $35 plus required membership and credentials Registration deadline: April 15 Event date: April 29 from 8 am to 4 pm Mt. Nebo State Center at 608 West 1400 South Payson This training is required to oversee a range at a 4-H shooting sport event. We are able to offer the NRA RSO certification again this year at a deeply discounted price! Normally the cost is over $90 just for the instruction fee alone. Our cost includes a $10 instruction fee and the required student booklet. It is not refundable because the booklets can not be returned once ordered. After compeleting the course, your credentials will b submitted and paid for online. The credentials last for 2 years, after which you do not need to take the course again, you just need to submit a renewal. *We will have a 30 minute lunch break. Bring your own sack lunch and plan to stay on site. ***Absolutely no guns are allowed at the training. Please leave them at home. ***You can sign up for NRA membership (or renew an existing one) at a discount at the course. Please do not sig up for it ahead of time, as it is easier to process both RSO and membership information all at once. Register online at the Utah Scouts website.
