OWIS goes green – consequently active in
climate protection
When it comes to precision in the micro- or nanometre range,
customers from all over the world refer to the OWIS GmbH. The
medium-sized family-run company with over 30 years of product
and market experience offers worldwide proven optical beam
handling systems as well as standard and application-specific
positioning systems.

Today, the company OWIS , headquartered in Staufen, southwest of Germany, is one of the leading manufacturers of these
systems with its own development and an ultramodern production "Made in Germany".
The manufacturing of OWIS® products – often single pieces or
small series – requires numerous energy-consuming processes.
For economic reasons energy-conscious action has always been
the standard for OWIS®, at the same time it is set target to act
ecologically responsible.
For years, heating of the OWIS® premises is effected with the
heat resulting from the production process. As a further measure,
OWIS® has concluded an extensive power supply contract with
the local power supplier “Stadtwerke Müllheim-Staufen” ensuring the exclusive consumption of green electricity. “We are
pleased to have a competent local partner who enables us to
achieve our climate targets”, says Managing Director Dirk
Schuhen when signing the contract end of March 2013. He is
particularly pleased with the staff benefit resulting from the new
contract which allows advantageous rates to each OWIS® employee.
Till end of 2016, the “Stadtwerke” supplies about 1.2 million
kilowatt-hours electricity from one hundred percent renewable
resources to OWIS®. This leads to a saving of around 660 tonnes
of carbon dioxide. OWIS® contributes significantly to push the
local climate protection. The cooperation between OWIS GmbH
and the “Stadtwerke Müllheim-Staufen” is a role model for the
entire region.
