6 June 2014 Dear Parents, Religious Education I am delighted to report how very well our recent topic of Pentecost has been received by the children. I can very confidently detail just how well all classes can recall the story of Pentecost and how the gift of the Holy Spirit transformed the lives of the first apostles and early church. Indeed, having visited classes this week to observe RE work, I have been quite overwhelmed by the sense in which the children understand how the Holy Spirit is a helper and guide in our lives. I have witnessed a lovely confidence in their responses to their work in this topic. May I also acknowledge the tremendous encouragement and joy the staff express to the children about this important aspect of our faith. Here is just a sample of Year 2’s observations: The Holy Spirit helps me by: Giving me confidence Helping me be brave Helping me to stand up for what I know is right even if my friend doesn’t Helping me do things that I can’t do Helping me to be helpful Helping me praying the Ten Hail Mary’s Helping me by being kind Diversity Week Next week we will be holding our Diversity Week. Our creative arts focus is Dance and our diversity theme is South America which will cover the obvious theme of the World Cup! We are grateful to CAFOD for the materials we will use in this topic. We thank Mrs Poulter for her lead in this area. Our annual ‘Food Fest’ has not yet been arranged- details to follow. Spanish Day We also thank Mrs Fernandez for her organisation of this day. Please see her notice: Dear Parents, We will be hosting a Spanish Day at St Peter’s on 10th June During the Spanish Day we will have an array of fun and enjoyable activities for the children. We would like to encourage your child/children to wear red and yellow clothing. If your child/children has/have a flamenco dress, a football kit from a Spanish team, a Mexican sombrero or any other related costumes encourage them to wear it on the day. Handmade costumes are very welcome. If you have lived or visited a Spanish speaking country your child/children could bring along photographs and souvenirs that you may have kept and share them with their class. Finally, find attached a family quiz for you to fill in and return to the main office no later than 13th June to enter a prize competition.
