What happens now?
Next steps
What you can do in the
meantime?
Your child has now been weighed and
measured. Their measurements have been
calculated to reveal their Body Mass
Index (BMI). This is the measurement we use
to check if your child is within the healthy
weight range.
• You will receive a letter detailing the time
and date of your appointment.
• Take a few moments to read the
information leaflet that will be sent out
with the appointment letter
(Top Tips For Kids).
If you are reading
this leaflet then
chances are your
child has fallen
outside of the
‘healthy’ range.
We are aware
that your child’s
growth and
development
are important
to you.
Our team is
committed
to offering
you access to a
service that can help your child stay healthy and happy.
• You now have access to The Children
and Family Weight Management Team and
we are happy to hear from you if you need
any help or advice.
• At your appointment you will meet with
one of our Dietitians or Public Health
Nutritionists.
• Your child’s height and weight
measurements will be taken again and you
will have the opportunity
to discuss their eating
habits in a little more
detail.
• This will also be the perfect time to
raise any questions
you may have about
your family’s diet.
• Maybe keep a food diary of everything
your child eats and drinks over a
2—3 day period.
• This will help you to identify if there are
any little changes you can make.
THINK???
Does your child still have a bottle?
• How often? What is in it?
Do you need to reduce it ?
Does your child have ‘treats’ or
‘snacks’ that are high in sugar or fat?
• How often? Can you cut them out?
Add up all the ‘little treats’ that
your child has.
• Start by adding up daily snacks/treats
1 Biscuit per day = 7 per week
Your child’s details will now be passed to the
Children & Family Weight Management Team.
= 31 per month
= 365 per year
This is a great opportunity for you to connect
with an expert who will be able to offer support.
Is your child physically active?
• Walking, running, skipping and
jumping are fun ways for young
children to be active.
