MARKET TRADERS INSTITUTE, INC. Team Member Profile Instructions The following self-evaluation helps people understand their strengths and their weaknesses via a “personality self-evaluation.” Please keep in mind that this is not a test. There are no right answers or wrong answers; only good answers. Please follow these instructions to fill out the self-evaluation: 1. Fill out columns 1, 2, 3 & 4 on pages 1 and 2. Each column will have 30 words or phrases that may most likely describe you, least likely describe you, or place you in between. For every word or phrase that most likely describes you, place an “M” next to the word or phrase; for the least like you, place an “L” and, if you are in between, place an “I”. 2. at the bottom of each column, add up all the M’s and multiply them by 3, coming up with a total. Multiply the total number for “I” by 2 and the total for “L” by 1, creating a grand total at the bottom. Do the same exercise for Columns 1, 2, 3 and 4. 3. Take the total of Column 1 and place it on the line under “Detailer” on Page 3. Take the total of Column 2 and place in on the line under “Exciter” on page 3. Take the total of Column 3 total and place on Page 3 under “Feeler.” Column 4’s total is placed on Page 3 under “Bottom-Liner.” 4. the individual traits of a Detailer, Bottom-Liner, Feeler and Exciter are found on Page 4. The focus of this self-evaluation is to help you understand who you are and what your predominant personality traits and styles are. When it comes to communicating, it is best to be very balanced in your scores; for example, Detailer 65, Bottom-Liner 68, Exciter 64, and Feeler 66. MARKET TRADERS INSTITUTE, INC. Apart from a common language, we need to share interests and terminology to understand what the other is saying. In the same way, we must work to bridge our differences in personality. The following rule generally holds true: The further away you are from someone on the personality grid the more difficult it is to relate to them. For example, a highly analytical person will likely find it difficult to work with someone who is very expressive. The same conflict could occur between a driver and an amiable. This is because their ways of thinking and working are quite different. Most of the time we will not have the luxury of choosing who we will work with. Because of this, we must work with all personality types. To do this effectively, you will need to: • Observe. Listen and watch for personality cues; be open to someone else's style, values and perspective. • Adapt. Find common ground with someone who is different; this could be your speed of speaking or the terms you use (e.g., talking about facts vs. feelings). • Connect. Watch for body language and get feedback from others to see if you are being understood; check your own thoughts/feelings. Do you feel harmony or discord? The objective is to understand and relate to all other personality types. That is when communication clicks and working together works best. Tips for Your Type: For the Feeler: • Speed up with "fast" people • Talk more, listen less • Take control occasionally; be assertive • Take some risks For the Detailer: • Speak more and smile more • Show appreciation and personal interest • Relax; share information and be open to others • Remember: Enthusiasm will not kill you... For the Bottom Liner: • Slow down with "slow" people • Take time to listen to the ideas of others • Hold back from dominating; relinquish some control • Show more patience and act more relaxed For the Exciter: • Listen more; slow down, relax • Write things down; set specific goals • Check details and stay calm • Learn to concentrate The Value of Personality Analysis Here are some ways the personality analysis can help you become a leader: • Increased self-acceptance. You will begin to accept more of your strengths and your weaknesses. • Improved awareness. You will recognize where your strengths can become weaknesses. • More perspective. You will be able to see (and have more understanding of) different sides of yourself and others. • Greater choice. Knowing different personality qualities, you will be able to develop the ones you want. • More understanding and ability to work with others. You will see the strengths and needs of people around you. • Enhanced personal growth. You will feel more balanced, more integrated, and whole.
