The Middletown South girl’s soccer program will officially begin
Monday, August 12, at 7:30am at Middletown South and conclude
on Friday, August 23rd. Please see the attached calendar for
specific training times, as we will occasionally have double
sessions. All players should keep her schedule free from 7:3011:30am for each day of camp, and then times will be adjusted
after the levels are configured. Teams will be announced before
the first scrimmage, but will not be set for the year. Players will be
asked to play at the level most beneficial to the team. If it is
necessary to make cuts, they will be made on Friday August 16th.
Preseason begins Monday, August 12th.
You must have the following, or you will not be able to practice.
1.) Rules & Regulations sheet signed by you and your
guardian-turned in to me first day of preseason.
2.) Philosophy sheet signed by you and your guardianturned in to me first day of preseason.
3.)
Paperwork turned in to my mailbox in the main
office at Middletown South on or before August 1st.
All paperwork should be in ONE envelope. All
paperwork goes to ME, not to Stacy or health office.
All copies of the papers in the packet must be filled out completely. You also need to
make an extra copy of the physical to put in the packet once it is filled out by the
doctor. If all forms are not filled out, the packet will be considered incomplete and the
athlete will not be able to participate. Please write the following on the front of your
packet: Name, grade and sport.

I am really looking forward to the upcoming season. As a united soccer program, we will
be aiming to accomplish these goals for the 2013 season. All players are individually
responsible for their attitude and effort, as these are always controllable qualities. A
strong effort and positive attitude will give us the best possible chance of achieving our
team goals.
Middletown Soccer Club is running camps in July and August at Lincroft acres.
CAMP FLYER: MSC Elite Camp 2013.pdf
Athletes are encouraged to attend either these camps or other camps during the summer.
To achieve our goals athletes must be willing to give 100% all of the time. Remember
you need to arrive to training camp match-fit!
All athletes will be tested for their level of fitness during preseason:
1. 4 laps around the track in 6:50 minutes
2. Ten 120’s, 20 seconds
3. Five sets of cones, with soccer ball, 50 seconds
4. 25 pushups/ 50 reverse sit ups
5. Beep test- Level 9
*All varsity players must pass these tests before they can play in a varsity game.
*All athletes must complete these tests in order to receive a uniform.
Athletes that wish to be considered for varsity may continue to take the tests each
practice until they pass them. Make-ups will typically be done at 7:30am each morning,
but will vary depending on that days training regimen. Remember; always bring cleats,
shinguards, running shoes, water, and a pumped-up soccer ball to each training session.

The philosophy of the soccer program is built upon a united team attitude and personal
work ethic, two things that each player has the potential to control at all times. I am very excited
about the upcoming season. Every player has a fresh start, and all positions are up for grabs. The
best players will play regardless of the grade that they are in or past roles and experiences in the
program. A positive attitude and strong work ethic are vital characteristics to become the best
player you can be, thus making us the best soccer program we can be. All levels of the program
are expected to adhere to these expectations.
Please be aware that playing time is not guaranteed at any level. Making a particular team
does not guarantee playing time. Playing time is always decided based on what is best for the
team on the particular day, against the particular opponent. Players need to respect the decisions
made by the coaches. Parent emails are encouraged if their child is sick or there is a family
situation I need be made aware of, however, I will not entertain playing-time
related emails. I am a coach of a large team and I am doing what is best for the team.
Additionally, players cannot miss practice for any reason, unless it is an emergency. If a
player has an unexcused absence from practice, they will miss the next scheduled game. If a
player misses a practice before a game for any reason, they will not play in the game the next day.
All players must call my cell phone if they will not be at practice, or notify me in person at
school. Players are not to tell their friends on the team. I must be told directly, or you will not
play in the next scheduled game.
Athletes are expected to be role models inside and outside the classroom. All athletes are
subjected to random drug and alcohol testing. Athletes must refrain from using these substances.
Athletes, who choose to disobey team rules, are putting their team at risk. If any Middletown
South soccer player is involved in any inappropriate activity, (drugs, alcohol, smoking,
vandalism, cutting class etc.), they may be dismissed from the team. Rachel Becker, Deanna
Rotella, and Madison Curtis are the team captains, and if you have any questions please contact
them directly.
The captains will also be keeping an email contact list and a text message list to notify
players of any changes to the schedule, etc. This is especially important for our teammates
attending vocational schools.
Thank you,
Coach Ernst

Soccer Rules and Regulations
1. All athletes must have all paperwork in before being allowed to participate.
2. All athletes must bring a pumped-up ball, water, running shoes, cleats, and shinguards to
each training session. This is your responsibility.
3. Class trips are a privilege and encouraged. However, it is also a choice at the varsity
level. Students should check with me before paying for a trip. If the trip involves missing
a practice or a game, then they will incur the penalty of a missed practice. It is only fair to
the rest of the girls. At the sub varsity level, players will not be penalized for a missed
practice due to a school sponsored class trip.
4. Any athlete caught smoking cigarettes during the season will sit out for 30 days.
5. Freshmen should arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of each practice.
6. Parents must pick up athletes at the scheduled time. I always start and end on time. I do
not want athletes calling parents after practice.
7. Cell phones are to be turned off at all times during practices and games. If I see a cell
phone out during a practice or a game, you will sit out the next scheduled game.
8. I expect all soccer players to be role models on and off the field. Teachers should not be
telling me that an athlete is disrespectful. If this happens, the student will be written up
for insubordination, which will result in an after-school detention. Being late or missing
practice due to a detention will result in sitting out the next scheduled game.
9. Weekend practices are a necessity especially at the varsity level. Athletes are expected to
be at every practice. Any practices on Saturdays during the school year will be at 9am,
and any practices on Sundays will be at 5pm, this will allow the athlete to go to religious
services and family obligations. We also may have games on Saturdays, please check the
schedule.
10. During the season, soccer comes before other non-academic activities. (work, etc)
11. If an athlete does not dress for gym or sits out for any reason, they will not be allowed to
practice and will miss the next scheduled game.
12. If an athlete is late for practice, they will be reprimanded. If they are more than 30
minutes late for any reason, they will sit out the next scheduled game.
13. If an athlete goes home from school early due to illness, please leave a message on my
cell phone, so I can prepare the line-up accordingly.
14. I will not tolerate any berating of teammates, officials etc. Athletes need to be positive to
one another, I do not expect everyone to be best friends, but do expect them to respect
each other on the field. Cheer each other on, but leave the disciplining to me. If any
athlete crosses the line here, they will sit the rest of the game or practice.
15. All soccer players are expected to be at every practice. If an athlete misses a practice they
will sit out the next scheduled game.
16. If receiving a uniform understand that you are responsible for the full replacement value
of that uniform.
17. Playing time is not guaranteed at any level. Parents are not to discuss playing time
with coaches. Be sure to read the parent –coach communication guidelines on the district
website. I will assume it has been read when this is signed.
18. http://www.shoreconferencenj.org for any updates/last minute schedule changes.
