NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We continue our ‘Pupils’ Edition’ initiative this week, with 6th Formers - St.
Mark’s - reporting and writing content. Inevitably (and rightly), the voice ofthe
pupils should resonate in a school publication- and it is with pleasure that I look
forward to reading their contributions. May we be introduced today to the
future writers and journalists oftomorrow! Jim Casey, Principal

How long each day are you off school rehearsing?
About 1 1/2 hours a day on most days. The play itself was really good and singing and
dancing was amazing. Pinocchio and Gepetto
worked really well together. It was very imaginative

Well done to everyone involved in the show, you can
all give yourselves a well-deserved 'pat on the back'. Oscar Burke Mullaney in action as Pinocchio in the fabulous Fifth Form Musical

This film is about a dysfunctional class in
a college on the outskirts of Paris. It is
one of the best foreign language films I
have ever seen. The acting is excellent
and the teachers and pupils acted like
they were in a real school. The story-line
is very good, but I won’t spoil it for you.
The cinematography is very good as it
follows the students as they move from
class to class, laughing, messing and
doing work.
The place where they shot the film was
pretty good with artwork all around the
school, but it’s not as good as Willow
Park. The main characters are Wei,
Souleymane, Esmerelda, Carl, Louise and
M.Marin – all these characters have a
hard time inside and outside school.
I can definitely see why this film won a
Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sixth Form French Classes started
January with a documentary-style film
Une Année Scolaire. The movie is about
a class that's not very bright. There were a
few main characters: M.Marin, the
French Teacher, Wei, a Chinese student,
Khoumba and Louise the class reps and
Souleymane, who gets expelled.
On the first day of the school year, the
teachers introduce themselves and talk
about the students' behaviour.
The next week, M. Marin is starting to get
annoyed with Souleymane because of his
bad behaviour and temper. During the
next few days a new student Carl joins the
school after being expelled from another
school and a parent-teacher meeting is
held. This is the first time Souleymane’s
family officially find out that he has been
misbehaving.
Over the course of the next few weeks,
Souleymane is expelled and is sent back
to Mali because he stormed out of the
classroom and accidentally hit Khoumba
in the eye with his bag.
On the last day of school M.Marin asks
the student what they have learned
during the course of the year. The movie
ended with the teachers having a football
match with the students.
