Goals and Objective:
The teacher will describe and recognize the achievments and features of
the Maya Indian. Specifically, the acievments in mathematics,
astronomy, and architecture. Furthermore, to identify the early
civilizations that developed into empires in Central and South America.
Summary:
The teacher will be using Early Civilization learning centers that will
allow students to recognize the achievements of the Maya Indian.
Specifically, in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, and
architecture. Furthermore, to identify the early civilizations that
developed into empires in Central and South America.

• Concept : Concept 2: Early Civilizations (Note: Prehistoric tribes in Arizona were

Performance Objective : PO 5. Recognize the achievements and features
(e.g., mathematics, astronomy, architecture) of the Mayan, Aztec, and
Incan/Inkan civilizations.

Performance Objective : PO 5. Recognize the achievements and features

LESSON ACCOMODATIONS
Content:
The teacher will have concrete knowledge of the Maya Indian.
Specifically, in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, and architecture.
In addition, to have the ability to identify the early civilizations that
developed into empires in Central and South America.
Multiculturalism &
Diversity:
The teacher will demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to
multiculturalism, diversity, and special needs. Specifically, by providing
tutoring, visual aids, and peer modeling to students. Furthermore, will
modify and adjust reading material and vocabulary words for the
students.
Lesson Integration:
The teacher will integrate art and math into the lesson plan. Specifically,
by having the students engage in art and math while participating in the
learning centers.
IMPLEMENTATION
Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will provide historical pictures, and short documentaries
that recognize the vast achievements and features of the Maya Indian.
Specifically, in mathematics, astronomy, and architecture. Furthermore,
to identify the other early civilizations that developed into empires in
Central and South America.
Input:
Students will have had prior knowledge of the Mayan Indians.
Furthermore, the information will be disseminated by having Early
Civilization learning centers. Specifically, by providing historical pictures,
short documentaries, and National Geographic magazine.
Model:
The teacher will demonstrate the concepts to the students, by having
Early Civilizations learning centers in the classroom. Specifically, by
providing historical pictures, short documentaries that depict the Maya
Indian. In addition,will have Geographic Magazine that will help identify
the Early Civilizations that developed into empires in Central and South
America.
Check
Understanding:
The teacher will hand out a quiz to the students after the lesson.
Specifically, to identify those students that have concrete knowledge of
the material.
Guided Practice:
The teacher will have Early Civilization learning centers in the
classroom, and will have the students demonstrate their mastery of the
lesson. Specifically, to have the students recognize the Maya Indian and
their accomplishments in mathematics, astronomy, and architecture.
Furthermore, to identify the other early civilizations that developed into
empires in Central and South America.
Closure:
The teacher will review and clarify key points in the lesson. Specifically,
by providing a quiz and homework to demonstrate comprehension.
