A quick guide.
Here’s a brief summary of the
enhanced features and functionality
you’ll notice on your EFTPOS terminal.
If you need more detailed information
on your new terminal, please refer to
your User Guide.
New features that make doing
business easier.
EMV Capability:
EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) is the latest
in card security and means that if the card you
are presented with contains a Chip, the card must
be inserted into the terminal chip reader rather
than swiped (refer to image 1).
If you do swipe rather than insert a Chip Card,
don’t worry as the terminal will simply prompt
you to insert the card.
Changed Transaction Process:
Some of the transaction processes have
changed. The key changes are:
– The transaction amount is now entered prior
to inserting or swiping the card.
– All Chip Cards will need to be inserted into
the chip reader. If you do not, the terminal will
prompt you.
– The new process allows the cardholder to
retain their card during the processing. The
prompts have also been amended so they’re
more intuitive to the cardholder.
– Please follow the terminal prompts and review
your receipts to determine when a signature
is required.

Electronic Fallback (EFB) Capability:
EFB means that your terminal may still process
transactions even when it can’t connect to
Westpac. This may happen if:
– There is a communication/phone line error, or
in the case of mobile terminals, because of a
low GPRS signal.
– Fallback will also apply if the cardholder’s
bank (issuer) is not available.
– If your terminal does go into EFB mode, you
won’t notice any change in operation. All
transactions are stored until the next time it
connects to Westpac, even if the terminal is
switched off or loses power.
Changes to Terminal Prompts:
Some other prompts have also changed. In every
case, on screen prompts will clearly direct you or
the cardholder so you’ll know exactly what to do.
Change to some Report Layouts
(e.g. Transaction Listing):
Some of the Report Layouts have changed to
make them clearer and easier to read.
New Function – Reprint Last
Settlement Receipt:
After the software upgrade, your terminal will
have the capability to reprint the last settlement
receipt. This is an option many of our customers
have asked to be included.
“Sleep Mode” (mobile terminal only):
If you have a mobile (GPRS) terminal, a Sleep
Mode has been added to conserve battery power.
– After 10 minutes of non-activity your
terminal will go to sleep (the screen will be
blank but the terminal will still be connected
to the network).
– Wake the terminal by pressing any key and it’s
immediately ready for use. This is much quicker
than having to power the terminal on.
– When the terminal is in sleep mode for a period
of 60 minutes, an audible beep will sound
and the terminal will commence a one-minute
countdown before it shuts down. You can
prevent the shut down by pressing any key.
Low Battery warning: (mobile terminal only):
When the battery is low, the terminal will
sound an audible beep and begin a one-minute
countdown before shutting down. The terminal
will shut down if not connected to power during
this one-minute period.

The following changes only apply
when a particular option is enabled
on your terminal.
Changed Tipping:
When Tipping is enabled, you’ll notice some
changes to the Tipping prompts. Your terminal
can be configured to allow “sale with tip” and
“tip adjustment” as separate options. Please
see the User Guide for additional information or
simply follow the on-screen prompts.
Changed Pre-Authorisation and
Checkout Options:
If you have Pre-Authorisation enabled, a new
option is provided.
– “Auth” approvals are stored in the terminal for
a period of 7 days.
– Where checkout is required on an “Auth”
transaction you can retrieve the original auth
from the terminal by entering the “ROC”
number from the “Auth” receipt. You do not
need the card or card number to process the
checkout transaction using this option.
– The existing option to swipe or enter the
card number is retained for situations where
the “Auth” is no longer retained in the
terminal. Please refer to the User Guide for
additional information or simply follow the
on-screen prompts.
PIN now optional for Pre-Authorisations:
If you have Pre-Authorisation enabled, your
customers now have the option to use a PIN
with their card to accept payment.
PIN optional on AMEX and Diners:
If you accept Diners and/or AMEX cards, your
customers will have the option to enter their
PIN. Please note: This feature is independent of
the software upgrade and will be progressively
enabled from 1st October 2009.
Processing a Chip
Card is easy.
Step 1: Identifying a Chip Card.
Simply look for the metallic square (the
microchip) on the left-hand side of the card
above the card number. If there is no microchip,
swipe the card and process the transaction as
you do today.
Step 2: Using a Chip Card.
– Before inserting the Chip Card, enter the
transaction amount and press enter.
– Insert into the slot at the base of the terminal
when prompted (rather than swiping it) and
leave the card in the terminal for the duration
of the transaction.
– Wait a moment whilst the Chip Card is read
by the terminal.
Step 3: Completing the transaction.
– Follow the terminal prompts to complete
the transaction.
– Depending on the card issuer, the transaction
process may vary, so please read the screen
carefully each time.
Step 4: PIN on Credit.
– When the card supports a PIN, the terminal
will prompt you for a PIN.
– You should allow the cardholder the option of
using their PIN.
– If the cardholder elects not to use a PIN
simply select OK.
– A PIN is always required on Debit Cards.
Step 5: Check the receipt for approval.
– If the transaction is approved, check for a
signature line.
– If a signature line appears on the receipt,
have the cardholder sign the receipt and then
verify the signature (refer to image 2).
– If no signature line appears, no signature is
required (refer to image 3).
– Note that when the customer enters their
PIN, it does not guarantee the transaction will
be PIN approved. A prompt will indicate if an
authorised signature is still required.
– Should a tip be offered, the customer will be
required to sign the receipt in the appropriate
section even if the original purchase amount
has been PIN approved.
