Apprenticeship in Gen2
This leaflet will help you prepare to take the assessments. It provides you with
information about the assessments and some practice questions. Further detailed
instructions and practice questions will be provided when you take the assessments.
Note that the examples in this leaflet are not exactly the same as the assessments that
you will take, but they will help to prepare you for what you have to do.
Please read through this information carefully and ensure you understand what you’ll be
asked to do when you take the assessments.

This assessment measures your ability to understand and evaluate written information
from texts. In this assessment you will be presented with passages of text, for example:

You will then be asked to determine whether statements about these passages of text
are ‘True’ or ‘False’, or if you ‘Cannot Say’ without further information whether the
statement is True or False. It is important when making your judgement that you use
only the information presented.
Consider the following two statements about the passage above and try to determine if
each one is ‘True’ or ‘False’ or if you ‘Cannot Say’ without further information whether
the statement is True or False.
1. Julius Henderson has always been the managing director of Top Box Ltd.
The answer to Statement 1 is ‘false’. The information provided states that his father,
John, was previously a manging director.
2. Top Box Ltd. also has a temporary storage facility where half-finished
products are stored temporarily.
The answer to Statement 2 is ‘Cannot Say.’ There is no information provided that
states that Top Box Ltd. also has a temporary storage facility where half-finished
products are stored temporarily.

 The actual assessment will have 42 questions and you will have 12 minutes in which
to attempt them – you are not expected to complete all questions in the time

This assessment measures your ability to work with complex numerical data. In this
assessment you will be presented with tables and/or figures of data, for example:

You will then be asked to determine whether statements about these tables and/or
figures of data are ‘True’ or ‘False’, or if you ‘Cannot Say’ without further information
whether the statement is True or False. It is important when making your judgement
that you use only the information presented. Please now consider the following
statements in light of the information above.
1. Reeves, a partner, has a share of the total assets worth €375,000
The answer to Statement 1 is ‘True’. The information provided shows that
Reeves has a 25% share of the total assets (€1,500,000)
2. Shipping a package abroad using “Express Sunday” costs an additional
€90.00
The answer to Statement 2 is ‘False.’ The information provided shows that it
costs an additional €57.00 to ship a package abroad using the “Express Sunday”
option.

 The actual assessment will have 36 questions and you will have 12 minutes in which
to attempt them - you are not expected to complete all questions in the time
provided

This assessment measures your ability to complete simple calculations quickly and
accurately. In this assessment you will be presented with simple equations that you
must correctly complete using the numbers from 1-9. Each number from 1-9 may only
be used once to answer each question, and some questions may have more than one
correct solution. For example:

Making Quick and Accurate Calculations
The first example could be answered as: 3 + 4 = 7
The second example could be answered as: 4 X 8 = 32
Note that other answers are possible and that no answer is more ‘correct’ than any
other, as long as the equation is correctly completed.
Note also that in all cases the numbers used to complete each equation can be used
only once in that equation.
