Rules








Players – 4 players maximum per team. Age classification is based on the oldest
person on the team through the high school. In Open Divisions (ie: where
everyone in the 40 and over) everyone on the team must be of minimum
qualifying age before the first day of the tournament.
Registered Players - All players listed on the registered roster will be eligible to
play in the tournament. There will be no more than 4 players per roster. Players
may be added and changed by the captain on line until registration closes.
Rosters can be changed up to the first game being played, then they become set.
Players that play in a game that are not on the roster or added at registration
will cause a disqualification of the team in the game in which they played.
Number of Players - All games must start with 3 players per team at official
game time. There will be no grace period. Failure to field 3 players will result in
forfeiture of the game. There must be a minimum of 2 players available at end of
the game. Failure to provide two players will result in forfeiture of the game.
Authorized Equipment or Apparel – We reserve the right to refuse any type of
equipment or apparel that is deemed dangerous or inappropriate.
Eligibility - School players must be responsible for maintaining their own
eligibility.
Scoring – Games will be played to 21 points or 25 minutes, whichever comes
first. All baskets outside the 2 point arc are worth 2 points and inside the arc are 1
point. There will be a change of possession after each score or free throw
attempt. The winning team is the first team to reach 21 points and you do NOT
need to win by 2 points to win.
o If a both teams are under 21 points, the team with the most points is
declared the winner.
o Tie – If there is a tie at then end of regulation there will be a coin toss that
decides which team gets first possession. The team with the possession
arrow gets to call the toss. The first team to score 3 points wins. There is
a 4 minute maximum time limit. The team ahead after 4 minutes wins. If
it is a tie there will be sudden death with a coin toss. First team to score
wins. You do not have to win by 2 or more points in Overtime to win the
game.
Referees - All games will be refereed by an official. Referees are responsible
for making the calls of all 2 point shots and to maintain decorum on the court. It
is the referees responsibility to make sure that the scoreboard is accurate and time
is kept for each game.
Fouls – All CALLED fouls will result in 1 free throw shot, except in successful
shot attempts. In the event of a successful shot attempt the score will count and











possession will be exchanged. There are no 2 point plays (foul plus free
throws). A foul while shooting a 2 point attempt will result in 2 free throws.
Technical/Intentional/Flagrant Fouls – All will result in 1 point and maintain
possession. Must be called by Referee. Flagrant Fouls will result in the player
being expelled for the duration of the game and possibly for the remainder of the
tournament.
Free throws – When a foul is called a player will be issued one free throw. After
the attempt the ball will change possession to the other team. All other players
must remain behind the 2 point arc behind the shooter. There will be no
disrupting the free throw shooter.
Stalling – Is prohibited and defined a method in which an offensive team is not
making an attempt to score. If it is determined by the referee or court monitor
that a lack of effort is being made by the offensive team to score to run the clock
out a warning will be issued and if it continues a technical foul will be called.
Dunking – Is not allowed at any time and will be considered as an
unsportsmanlike act and will result in a technical foul.
Time Out – Each team will be issued one minute time out per game. The game
clock will stop during the time out.
Coin Toss – There will be a coin toss at the beginning of the game. The top team
on the bracket will make the call (heads or tails) and the winner will receive first
possession.
Jump Ball – The first jump ball will be directed to the loser of the coin toss and
alternate back and forth from that point on.
Clearing the ball/Taking it back - Players must clear the ball behind the “Check
Line”. All Air Balls must be cleared behind the “Check Line”. It is considered
clearing the ball if at least 1 foot is cleared past the line. If it is not cleared and a
basket is made the basket will not count and it will result in a change of
possession.
Checking the ball - When there has been a score and a possession change, the
receiving team must check the ball at the check line with the “opposing player”
before the ball is put into play.
o The defender will allow a 2-3 foot cushion for the player to inbounds the
ball.
o The inbounding player cannot move his feet and must keep at least one
foot planted before he/she inbounds the ball.
o They will have 5 seconds to inbound the ball. If it takes more than 5
seconds to inbound the ball a violation will be called and it will result in a
change of possessions.
o 3rd/4th/5th Grade Players cannot deny inbounds pass to the wing
behind the free throw line. They can deny passes to the interior and if
they are intercepted play is continued as a turnover and must be
cleared behind the check line before a shot can be taken.
Stealing – 3rd/4th /5th grade players can steal passes and off the dribble. They can
not “grab at” or “rip” the ball out of opponents hands.
