You’ve Got Choices!
In Class Instruction--Traditional classes where you meet
with an instructor and other students on a regular, set schedule. If you cannot take day classes, evening classes are listed
in this section as well. See pages 16-32.
Online Instruction--You can now take an Internet-based
class on your home computer, or your laptop for that matter,
and never have to step foot in a classroom. This class format
is set up to give you an anytime, anywhere option. You usually
get your text book (if applicable) in the mail, and then classes
are set up so that you can access assignments online and return them to the instructor online by the specified date. Some
classes involve chatroom for class discussion. Tests are also
done online, usually in a secure, time-limited format. There are
all kinds of ways to take online classes through NJC:
1) NJC Online Classes--created by and taught by NJC
faculty members. These classes are listed with all other
classes. Look for classes with a Section Number beginning with “N”, Ex: BUS 216 (Legal Enviroment of
Business is offered in several formats this semester,
including Online and Hybrid. See page 34
CCCOnline Classes--offered by the Colorado Community College System. These classes are created and taught
by CCCS faculty from all over the state. You may register
for these classes, indicating that NJC is your “home college” and these credits, once earned, are placed on your
NJC transcipt. See pages 35-37.
Note: CCCS Online classes are priced slightly higher than
NJC Online classes.. See pages 41-43
Hybrid Class Instruction--These classes combine both
in-class and online formats. The bulk of the instruction is delivered online. You will find your hybrid classes listed along side
the online classes in this booklet. (See page 34)
Late Start Classes and B-Term Classes--Usually offered the
last 8 weeks of a semester, these classes allow students to
pick up some extra credits to keep their full-time status, or to
take preparatory classes to get ready for degree level classes
the next semester. See page 33.
J-Term Classes--Also referred to as “January term”. This select group of classes is offered in early January and includes
two weeks of intense, accelerated learning (classes typically
run 8 a.m. to 12 noon five days a week) This is a chance for
you to get a jump on your spring semester. Classes taken
J-Term are recorded on your transcript as Spring Semester
classes. See page 38.
3. Registration Holds--if you have a hold on your account you will
NOT be able to register for classes until the hold is taken
care of: Your hold will be due to one of the following
circumstances:
*Unpaid Account Balance - Contact Cashier’s Office.

Advising is important.
College is expensive. It is our goal to get you
a degree as quickly and affordable as we possible can. It is really important that you have
guidance on your NJC journey.
Please make sure you get connected
with an academic advisor.
See the list of Page 9.
We encourage you
NOT to self-advise.
REGISTRATION/
PAYMENT VERIFICATION
NJC sets aside two days at the beginning of Fall Semester to
give students an opportunity to verify their student information,
make sure this class schedule is finalized and to make payment
arrangements be it through financial aid, student/parent loans or
cash payment. The dates set aside for the Fall 2016 Semester
are:
Thurs., August 18th-New Students
Sun., August 21st-Returning Students
If you are a NEW STUDENT and have not applied or
registered for classes yet, you need to report to the
Admissions Office in Hays Student Center to start this
process.
If you are a NEW STUDENT who has already been
on campus and registered for classes:
Report to the identified area in Hays Student Center on one
of the above dates to have your class registration verified
and to be processed for payment through the Campus
Cashier.
RETURNING REGISTERED STUDENTS
-Report to the identified area in Hays Student Center on one of
the above dates to have your class registration verified and be
processed for payment through the Campus Cashier.
NON REGISTERED STUDENTS--If you have been a
student at NJC in the past, but failed to register for classes for any
reason, you will need to contact the Department Office for your
academic major to be advised and placed into classes before you

must go through the payment process indivdiually and you can do
this with the campus cashier in Hays Student Center.
It is crucial that you make sure your payment arrangements are in
place. If you are unable to finalize payment plans before classes
begin, you MUST visit the Cashier’s Office, HSC, Room 132 to
take care of this as soon as possible after the semester begins.

ADMISSION POLICY
Northeastern is an open enrollment institution which means we
welcome all applications. However, admission into the college does not
guarantee admittance into specific programs or courses with additional
prerequisites or limited enrollment. Questions about admission should
be submitted to the Admissions Office at 970-521-7000.
Northeastern Junior College admits students based on the
following criteria:
1. Applicants who are at least 17 years old (under 17 requires a
presidential waiver to be acquired through the admissions
office).
2. Applicants with a high school diploma, GED, or those who
meet the minimum test scores requirement on an Ability to
Benefit Test.
3. Students who are enrolled in a Concurrent Enrollment
program through their high school.
4. International applicants who meet the International Student
Admission Requirements listed in the college catalog (including
but not limited to a TOEFL score of 475 for the paper test or a
score of 150 for the computer based test, or a 52 on the
Internet-based test.)
High School Transcripts/GED. Students are required to
submit official transcripts of their high school, GED or home school
work and curriculum. This information is valuable in the academic
advising process and financial aid consideration.
ACT/SAT. Entrance examinations, such as the ACT or SAT, are
encouraged but not required for admission. Students who have taken
these entrance exams are asked to have their scores sent directly to
NJC. If a student does not take the ACT or SAT, or scores below a
certain score in one of three areas (math, English & reading), he or she
will be required to take a Community College Placement Test (CCPT)
to determine placement in classes. To establish if you are exempt from
taking the CCPT test, contact the Student Success Center at (970)
521-6663.
When to Apply. Northeastern welcomes applications at any time.
New student applicants are encouraged to apply at least one month
prior to their planned date of class registration. Students planning to
re-admit may do so at any time by completing a re-admit form in the
Admissions office.
Notice of Acceptance. Applicants are advised to contact the
Admissions Office if an official notification of acceptance is not received
by final registration. Prompt notification from the student is appreciated
if they do not plan to attend for the term listed on the application for
admission.

Vandenbark at 970-521-6763 or email: [email protected]
IMPORTANT TO KNOW—NJC online and hybrid classes are DIFFERENT than CCCOnline classes and are
operated differently. If you are taking a CCCOnline class, you will need to access that site http://ccconline.org/ for
directions. Pay close attention to know if you are enrolling in an NJC online or hybrid class or a CCCOnline class.
What you must know about
taking online classes
Online courses are NOT EASIER than on campus
classes. In fact, many students will say it requires
much more time and commitment.
Online courses are NOT SELF-PACED or
independent learning. You are required to
complete course work by the due dates
indicated by the instructor within the course.
Online courses USE TECHNOLOGY. You need to be
comfortable with up and down loading
your assignments as well as moving them in and
out of your word processing software.
You must be willing and able to commit your time,
approximately 8-10 hours of work per week,
per course.
There are two ways you may take
online classes through NJC
ʇNJC Online and Hybrid Classes
These classes are taught by NJC instructors and they are
designated in the class listings as those classes with an
“H” (Hybrid”) or “N” (Online) in the section number. See
page 34 in this booklet for a list of these classes. You
may enroll and do all your work for these classes through
the NJC website www.njc.edu
ʇCCCOnline Classes
These classes are offered through the state community
college system. This Spring ‘16, four different sessions
will be offered. One 15 weeks, one 10 weeks and two 6
weeks in length. You may sign up for these classes and
designate NJC as your “home” college. Your grade will
show up on your NJC transcript just as if you had taken it
through NJC. See pages 35-37 for a list of these classes.
You may enroll and do all your work for these classes
through the CCCOnline website:
http://ccconline.org/
Know the difference.
The successful student will view their online course as a convenient way to
receive their education, not an easier way.

Think about your
student loans
Today the average college student with debt has around $25,000 in
student loan debt. One of the advantages at Northeastern is with a
smaller tuiƟon than four year schools, our average debt level is around
$10,000 per student that borrows. Along with a lower debt level, most
years over half our graduates leave without having any student loan
debt.
Student loans can help Įll a criƟcal gap in money in paying for school,
but be careful. If you can’t pay back your loans and go into default you
need to worry about the following:
i The enƟre unpaid amount of your loan becomes due and payable.
i Your default will be reported to naƟonal credit agencies.
i You may be sued, have your federal tax refund or federal payments
be taken from you, or your wages may be garnished so your
employer is required to send part of your salary to pay oī your loan.
i You will have to pay addiƟonal collecƟon fees and costs, plus court
costs and aƩorney fees.
i You’ll lose eligibility for other federal student aid and most other
federal beneĮt programs.
i When you graduate you have a six month grace period before you
have to start paying oī your student loans, but your loan debt will
start to add interest right away. You need call 1Ͳ800Ͳ848Ͳ0983 or go
onͲline to www.dl.ed.gov to Įnd your servicer and set up the right
payment plan for you.

Q&A
Colorado’s College Opportunity Fund= COF
Q: What is the College Opportunity Fund and how is it different from state
funding now and in the past?
A: In July of 2004, the College Opportunity Fund (COF) (C.R.S. 23-18-101
through 23-18-207) became law. The legislation (SB 04-189) established a new
student-based process for providing state funds to institutions of Higher Education. Institutions currently receive funding directly from the State of Colorado in
the form of a general fund subsidy to educate in-state higher education students
based on a full-time-equivalent student formula. Starting fall 2005, students will
see the amount the state contributes to the college on their behalf and direct the
stipend to the institution. Students will be able to monitor the number of credit
hours for which their stipend has paid.
Q: What is a stipend?
A: "Stipend" means the amount of money per credit hour paid by the State of
Colorado on behalf of an eligible undergraduate student – Colorado resident
with a Social Security number – who is attending a state institution of higher
education. The first time an eligible undergraduate student is able to receive a
stipend will be for the fall semester of the 2005-06 academic year.
The Colorado Legislature will set the specified amount of the stipend per credit
hour annually. The amount will never exceed the student's total in-state tuition.
The value of the per credit hour stipend will be the same for each eligible undergraduate student, regardless of the state college or university the student attends.
If an eligible undergraduate student attends a participating private college or
university in the state of Colorado, the per-credit-hour amount will be 50 percent
(50%) of the annually-set stipend amount.
Total stipend hours per student, per semester, are determined by the school
and reported to the College Opportunity Fund (COF). COF matches student
information with Stipend Application Account information in its database (the
information you provide when creating a stipend account) and disburses the
stipend amount directly to colleges and universities on behalf of those eligible
undergraduate students identified by the school.
Q: When does the College Opportunity Fund take effect?
A: The College Opportunity Fund will begin July 1, 2005. Continuing students
and new students starting school in the fall can sign up now for the stipends. Eligible undergraduates attending the fall 2005 semester will be the first
program recipients.
Q: Why do I need to set up this account?
A: COF is a new way to distribute the state funds for college. In the past, the
funds were sent directly to the college. With COF, the funds will be sent to the
college on behalf of each individual student. Students will be able to see the
state’s contribution – their stipend – on their tuition bills. Colorado residents
who don’t sign up for COF will have to pay their tuition plus the portion the
state would have paid.
Q: How do I sign up for the College Opportunity Fund?
A: You can sign up for COF only online at www.collegeincolorado.com, or click
on the COF link at www.njc.edu. The process is simple. Type your name, Social Security number and date of birth in the appropriate boxes and click on the
“submit” button. You only have to sign up once, even if you transfer to a different college.
Q: Do I need to sign up for COF every semester?
A: No. Once you have signed up for COF you will not need to do it again. Your
stipend will follow you. When you register for classes, you may need to authorize the college to collect money from your stipend.
Q: Who is eligible?
A. Students classified as in-state for
tuition purposes and enrolled at state institutions of higher education are eligible for COF. Additionally, students enrolled at participating private
institutions of higher education may be eligible if the institution is approved for
the program by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) and the
student:
is classified as an in-state student for tuition purposes;
is a graduate of a Colorado high school or has successfully completed a
non-public home-based educational program in Colorado;
demonstrates financial need through the student's eligibility for the federal
Pell Grant, or its successor program; and
46
meets any other eligibility requirements established by
the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE).
Note: "Eligible Undergraduate Student" does not include students
enrolled in an off-campus, extended campus, or continuing education class not
supported by state general fund moneys, except as approved by the CCHE.
Q: I am a transfer student, am I eligible for COF?
A. The state will develop a policy
to determine the number of credit
hours for which continuing and transfer
students may receive a stipend from
the College Opportunity Fund.
All institutions will be required to
follow this policy. If you have questions on this, be
sure to contact your school or CCHE.
Q: What if I do not have a Social Security number?
A: Students must have a Social Security number to sign up for the COF. If they do
not have one, they will not be eligible to receive the stipend that covers part of their
in-state tuition.
Q: How much is the College Opportunity Fund stipend worth?
A: It will vary. The per-credit-hour-stipend amount will be
determined each year by the Colorado Legislature.
Q: Can I attend more than one institution and receive the College Opportunity
Fund stipend at each institution that I attend?
A: Yes, but you need to apply to, be admitted by and register at each eligible institution you want to attend. Each institution then must verify your enrollment and the
number of credit hours you are taking there. You – the student – must indicate on
your college application that you are seeking payment of the stipend to multiple
institutions. The hours taken at each institution count against your maximum number of hours –145 – that the College Opportunity Fund covers.
Q: What happens if I am not able to complete a course that is paid by the
stipend?
A: The stipend amount applying to your tuition bill is not refundable if you withdraw
or fail a course.
Q: Can I take as many credits as I would like?
A: No. Credits limits are set according to the student’s status. For example, a
freshman student will have 145 credits while a sophomore will have 115 credits.
The total number of credits available to students under COF should be enough to
earn an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree.
Q: Will the College Opportunity Fund pay for all of my courses?
A: No. Eligible students may use their stipends only for college-level undergraduate courses. The following courses will NOT be paid for by the College Opportunity
Fund:
x
x
x
x
x
basic skills;
"Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act" courses;
high school Fast-Track courses;
international baccalaureate courses;
advanced placement courses; and graduate courses.
Q: What can I do to be sure I am using my credits wisely?
A: A degree plan will help you outline the classes you will need to earn their
degree or certificate in the shortest amount of time and with the least number
of credits. Because COF limits the number of credits you can take, you will
need to meet regularly with an adviser or case manager to be sure you are on
the right track.

the student wishes to inspect. The Registrar will make arrangements for
access and notify the student of the time and place where the records
may be inspected. If the records are not maintained by the Registrar, they
shall advise the student of the correct official to whom the request should
be addressed.
2) The right to request the amendment of the student’s education
records that the student believes are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights.
A student who wishes to ask the NORTHEASTERN JUNIOR COLLEGE to amend a record should write the Registrar who will notify the
college official responsible for the record, clearly identify the part of the
record the student wants changed, and specify why it should be changed.
If the College decides not to amend the record as requested, the College
will notify the student in writing of the decision and the student’s right to
a hearing regarding the request for amendment using the Student Grievance Procedure SP 4-31. Additional information regarding the hearing
procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a
hearing.
ity to evaluate a federal- or state-supported education program. The
evaluation may relate to any program that is “principally engaged in
the provision of education,” such as early childhood education and job
training, as well as any program that is administered by an education agency or institution. Second, Federal and State Authorities may
allow access to your education records and PII without your consent
to researchers performing certain types of studies, in certain cases
even when we object to or do not request such research. Federal and
State Authorities must obtain certain use-restriction and data security
promises from the entities that they authorize to receive your PII, but
the Authorities need not maintain direct control over such entities. In
addition, in connection with Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems,
State Authorities may collect, compile, permanently retain, and share
without your consent PII from your education records, and they may
track your participation in education and other programs by linking
such PII to other personal information about you that they obtain from
other Federal or State data sources, including workforce development,
unemployment insurance, child welfare, juvenile justice, military
service, and migrant student records systems.

3) The right to provide written consent before NORTHEASTERN
JUNIOR COLLEGE discloses personally identifiable information from the student’s education records, except to the extent that
FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. One exception which
permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to College officials with
legitimate educational interests. A College official is a person employed
by the College in an administrative, supervisory, academic or research
or support staff position (including law enforcement unit personnel and
health staff); a person or company with whom the College has contracted
as its agent to provide a service instead of using college employees or officials (such as an attorney, auditor, or collection agent); a person serving
on the College Board; or a student serving on an official committee, such
as a disciplinary or grievance committee, or assisting another school
official in performing his or her tasks. NORTHEASTERN JUNIOR
COLLEGE has designated the National Student Clearinghouse as a College official. A College official has a legitimate educational interest if the
official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her
professional responsibilities for the College. Upon request, the College
discloses education records, without a student’s consent, to officials of
another school, in which a student seeks or intends to enroll, or after
enrollment.
• Graduation lists released to news media, which may include the
student’s city of residence.
The college may share educational records to parents in the following
circumstances: for a student who is dependent under I.R.S. tax code; a
student under 21 years old who has violated a law or the schools rules or
policies governing alcohol or substance abuse; and when the information
is needed to protect the health or safety of the student or other individuals in an emergency.
4) The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the College to comply with the
requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the Office that
administers FERPA is:
