AVNET CARES
Avnet’s employee volunteering and charitable giving
program, Avnet Cares, is one of the company’s most
successful corporate social responsibility programs.
The program launched in 2006 as a grassroots effort
by several Avnet employees who had a passion for
serving their local community in Arizona. This small
group took it upon themselves to donate their
personal time to nonprofit organizations.
Avnet Cares grew quickly and caught the attention
of Avnet’s executive leadership team. The executive
team recognized that employees were passionate
about community outreach and wanted to find ways
to empower them to keep giving back.
Today, Avnet Cares spans more than 20 countries,
providing a framework for employee-initiated
community efforts that support a broad range of
nonprofit organizations. The Avnet Cares program
is managed by a global program manager and
supported through an employee-led governing board
and active employee committees from Avnet offices.
Through the program, employees support eligible
nonprofit organizations of their choice, leveraging
Avnet Cares programs to maximize impact.

CORPORATE HIGHLIGHTS
Each year, the Arizona Technology Council’s annual awards gala, the
Governor’s Celebration of Innovation, in partnership with the Arizona
Commerce Authority, honors technology leaders and innovators
throughout the state. Avnet has supported this event for 12 years.
Through a generous contribution each year that includes $40,000
worth of pro bono video production and services, Avnet’s director of
video services spends six intense weeks, volunteering more than 300
hours to film and produce 35 videos for the awards gala.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
Avnet is proud to support Junior Achievement of Arizona’s signature
program—JA BizTown®, which provides approximately 20,000
students from 225 Arizona schools exposure to real-world business
circumstances during the school year.
Through this unique education program, fourth through sixth grade
students in Arizona have the opportunity to operate simulated
businesses in a student-sized town built for them.
Avnet sponsored two technology stores to excite students about
career opportunities related to science, technology, engineering
and math (STEM). The technology stores provide students with handson experiences, including learning how to replace a faulty hard drive
and assembling a computer. In addition, Avnet employees volunteer
throughout the year to guide and mentor students through the
experience.
When students arrive at JA BizTown, they explore career options,
interview for jobs, create business plans, calculate operating costs
and design a marketing plan. Students have the opportunity to apply
for six different jobs at the Avnet stores: chief executive officer, chief
technology officer, sales manager, computer hardware engineer,
computer repair engineer and computer software engineer.
Avnet donated more than $41,000 in funds and equipment, which
includes laptops, furniture and a videogame experience. In addition,
Avnet created an exposed wall-mounted computer equipped with
interactive lights to teach students how components work when the
keys on a computer are pressed.

AVNET CARES PROGRAMS
Avnet Cares provides a framework for employee-initiated community
efforts reaching a broad range of nonprofit organizations. The Avnet
Cares programs are managed by a global program manager and
supported through an employee-led governing board and active
employee committees from Avnet offices. Employees support nonprofit
organizations of their choice, leveraging Avnet Cares programs to
maximize their impact.
Through Avnet Cares in the Americas, 221 unique
nonprofit organizations received $535,124 during FY15.
Dollars for Doers
Each year, Avnet provides a financial contribution to an eligible
nonprofit of an employee’s choice based on the amount of time the
employee volunteers: $10 for each hour of service, up to $2,000 per
individual per year.
Matching Grants
The Matching Grants program matches funds raised for eligible
nonprofit organizations through employee-led fundraising events.
Avnet’s employees are creative with the different events they design
and coordinate. Events range from peer recognition through the sale
and delivery of candy grams to customer appreciation events and
larger events such as golf tournaments.

volunteerism by teams who are committed to making a difference in
their community. Each quarter, one Avnet employee team is honored
for their volunteer efforts that made a significant impact for a local
nonprofit.

AMERICAS HIGHLIGHTS
Employees in Guadalajara, Mexico, are sweet on charitable
giving. A donut day proved to be a rewarding idea that not
only raised much needed funds for an organization that helps
provide a sustainable future for at-risk children, but also drove
innovation and teamwork by creating a fundraising event the
entire business park where Avnet’s offices are located could
support.
A new classroom, new school clothes and new supplies can
make any child feel like the academic year is full of possibilities.
But for some children, going back to school can be a dreaded
experience because their families can’t afford the supplies they
need. To help those who need it most, six Avnet offices across
the United States donated hundreds of backpacks, thousands
of supplies and more than $3,000.
For 12 weeks, Avnet’s project-based U.S. summer intern program offers
undergraduate university students the opportunity to gain real-world
experience in a global FORTUNE 500 company. For the past few years, one
of the first projects they tackle helps the community. This year’s 67 interns
volunteered more than 300 hours to refresh an Arizona apartment complex
that provides transitional housing and services to women and children fleeing
domestic violence or homelessness.

For the past three years, employees in
Broomfield, Colo., have volunteered
during their lunch breaks to sign
Valentines cards for patients suffering
from cancer. This activity benefits a
Colorado nonprofit dedicated to making
life a “little sweeter” for individuals
undergoing cancer treatment in the
Denver metropolitan area. The Avnet
employees
contributed
Valentines
to more than 500 care packages for
patients undergoing chemotherapy.

AMERICAS HIGHLIGHTS
For 22 years, Arizona employees have volunteered with HandsOn Greater Phoenix for their annual Serve-a-Thon, which helps
schools, nonprofits and municipalities through “done-in-a-day” projects. With 126 employees, friends and family volunteering this
year, Avnet was the largest company in Phoenix to participate. A longstanding partnership, committed leadership and dedicated
volunteers didn’t go unnoticed. Avnet’s efforts from last year were featured in a video HandsOn submitted for the Super Service
Challenge, which won the organization $25,000.
Twenty Avnet employees in Chile
volunteered 80 hours at a nonprofit
orphanage that houses abused children.
Employees spent four hours entertaining
more than 60 children between the ages
of 3 and 8 years old. They prepared
breakfast and entertained the children
by performing a magic show and a play,
and purchased healthy snacks for each
child.
Since 2007, the activities committee at Avnet’s Global Solutions Center in
Chandler, Ariz., has rallied employees to help ensure Christmas is merry and
bright for children in the metropolitan Phoenix area. It takes a village to raise
more than $42,000. The “village” includes the 13 activities committee members
and 26 additional employees who help secure donations from 22 suppliers
and vendors and more than 300 employees. The fundraising culminates with a
team shopping trip to Walmart. The store dedicates two checkout lanes and five
employees to help make the three-hour shopping effort efficient. Hundreds of
toys are purchased and it takes a commercial moving truck to deliver the gifts.
In the past eight years, the team has contributed more than $217,000 to this
worthy cause.

AMERICAS HIGHLIGHTS
Avnet employees in the Phoenix, Ariz. area brightened their
coworkers’ days while raising money to provide education for
underprivileged children and families during a candy gram
sale. By selling 2,000 chocolate and granola bars, which were
delivered by members of the Avnet Executive Board, the effort
raised more than $7,500.
During an annual planning session in Arizona, the Avnet Cares
Governing Board, an employee-led group that helps set and
drive strategy for Avnet Cares in the Americas, incorporated a
teambuilding and volunteer event to their meeting. The group
volunteered a collective 30 hours, helping an organization
that provides transitional housing and comprehensive social
services to families with children fleeing domestic violence
and/or homelessness.
The global logistics leadership team took their teambuilding efforts to the next level by volunteering to pack supplemental meal boxes
for Arizona families in need. In less than two hours, the team formed an assembly line to build and break down boxes, assemble meals
and stack boxes for distribution. In total, the team assembled enough boxes to feed 900 people for three months.

In the APAC region, community involvement
continues to emerge and create greater impact with
exceptional growth.
In FY15, there was a 154 percent increase in total
contributions in the APAC region over the previous
fiscal year. Additionally, with more countries in the

measures to protect themselves against the disease
and to monitor situations in the field, which will help
reduce cases of infection.
Christian B. and two friends rappelled down the one-hundred

DISASTER RELIEF
When disaster strikes, in addition to reaching out to
customers and employees who may be affected, Avnet
responds by partnering with the Red Cross and its global
affiliates to help employees donate funds to aid disaster
relief efforts. When employees collectively donate a
minimum of $10,000 for a specific natural disaster, Avnet
matches employee donations dollar for dollar up to
$100,000.
Through these efforts, Avnet and its employees have
provided more than $1 million to assist with relief efforts
for disasters such as the 2011 earthquake and resulting
tsunami in Japan, and the 2013 tropical storms in the
Philippines and the floods in the Balkans.
In FY15, Avnet and its employees
raised approximately
$41,575
for disaster relief supporting
victims of the Nepal earthquake.
