The weather was absolutely beautiful and I couldn’t be more proud of the Staff and the service they provided. From the course conditions on the Island & Copperhead to the wonderful cuisine enjoyed throughout the event by our Culinary Team, everything went off without a hitch. We are already in the planning process to heighten and elevate the Event next year so if you weren’t able to attend this year, I hope you’ll be able to participate next January. As we count down to the Valspar Championship, March 9-12, I wanted to give everyone an update on the course. Our Team works closely with the PGA Tour Agronomist throughout the year. Roughly three weeks ago, I was able to spend the afternoon with him touring the Copperhead Course. I’m very happy to report that he thinks the course is in the best shape he’s ever seen it, heading into a PGA Tour Event. This is strong praise coming from someone who has worked this event for the past decade. Valspar continues to bring this event to new heights and I’m confident that we will all be very proud of our Club when the best players in the world are here next month! pipeline | 3 Bobby Barnes Daily Golf Clinics Mon Tues Wed Thurs 10-11am 10-11am 10-11am 10-11am Bunker Full Swing Putting & Chipping Full Swing North End North End North End North End Fri Sat Sun 10-11am 9-9:45am* 10-11am 10-11am Pitching Junior Full Swing Full Swing Putting & Chipping North End North End North End North End Daily Clinics take place on the Osprey Practice Facility. Hole in One Congratulations! Eli Berger had his first (in 83 years) hole-in-one on the South Course #5. He used a 27 degree utility club to accomplish his feat. Congratulations Dr. Berger! pipeline | 5 “From Within the Tee Box” By Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer Where do you RATE your grip pressure? 1 2 LOOSE 3 4 5 6 7 FEEL THE CLUBHEAD 8 9 10 TIGHT One of the most damaging fundamentals is holding on the club too tight. If the shoulders, arms, wrists and hands are tight, you will have no feel. When the club becomes restricted, it limits the face rotation, proper wrist set and club head speed. If you are too loose then the club may swing out of control or hands come off the club at the top. By design, with the grip handle being larger on the end, it will not fly out of your hands unless you were to physically let it go. When do we want a firm hold… when hitting through thick and tall grass or if you want to guarantee the ball doesn’t hook When do we want a light hold… when flopping a short & high shot or trying to draw the ball pipeline | 6 For standard situations, find your optimum pressure by practicing shots on different levels of pressure, you’ll find lighter is better for most cases. Try to feel the weight of the club head swinging freely. Drills if you’re too tight – slide your grip up so that your last 2 fingers of your lead hand are off the club or turn a club upside down and swish it If you feel the grip moves around and you need to hold on firmly, I’d look at the grip size being too small for your hand size or maybe new grips that aren’t too slick. The small flocks that roam together have grown in size recently. Members Scott & Amy Johnson have enjoyed the bluebirds since moving here. Scott built a Bluebird box near their condo. It took 16 years for the first bird to nest. Now Scott has custom built and installed 26 Bluebird boxes designed just for them. The boxes are numbered for location. Sixteen boxes line the Copperhead course. Nesting season is now in full swing. As the male watches the female will build the nest and incubate the eggs. Both birds will bring insects to the young. Scott and Amy Johnson would like to thank Innisbrook, Salamander and the Condo Association for their support in this ongoing endeavor pipeline | 29 Thanks to the Johnsons for the beautiful eastern Bluebirds we are now enjoying in abundance.
