The images above show what Tan-y-Deri looked
like after intial construction. Notice the large porch
extending off the north elevation (on the left above).
This porch had two large cantileverd beams that sat on
columns.
During this period alterations were made to the orignal
porch. First the cantilevered beams were cut back and
a small flat roof was added between the beams. The
next major step, shown in the images above, involved
the addition of a small screen porch with a roof. During
this period the french doors were also added into the
basement. This is the period that the porch will be
restored to.
The above images show the last major changes to the
Tan-y-Deri front porch. This involved the removal of the
large wooden deck. The stone foundation and concrete
cap were retained. On top of this several course of
new stone work were added and a new stone wall was
constructed about four feet from the covered screen
porch, that was retained from the previous period.
This is the configuration of the porch, as it was prior to
restoration. A small flat roof had been added around
the existing hip roof of the screen porch. All the other
details were the same as the era between 1954-60.
