August 22-26, 2016 Chemistry Lesson Plans Mrs.Scarpulla Monday August 22 Teacher - return Test 1- cover any commonly missed problems st - distribute 1 9 weeks project instructions and rubric -provide examples, dos and do nots, and allow time for students to research a project idea Student st -receive the 1 9 weeks project instructions and rubric -understand instructions, participate in discussion, ask questions for clarification -stand and do a 1.5 minute talk about themselves- gives practice in public speaking, allows students to understand the preparation that will be needed for their presentation at the end of the 9 weeks -research project ideas/options via laptops provided by school Tuesday August 23 Teacher -Vocabulary- extensive vs. intensive properties, mass, volume, substance, Physical states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, vapor) Physical changesreversible or irreversible, Chemical change, element, compound, mixture, heterogeneous mixture, homogenous mixture, solution, phase, filtration, distillation -Demonstrate reversible physical change, irreversible physical change, and chemical change using paper -Place Vocabulary words for 2.2 & 2.3 on board, describe and demonstrate the terms, have students read & describe terms to the class - Molecular Mass- demonstrate how to calculate formula mass Student -pick up laboratory hand out -write vocabulary terms into notes with examples as teacher demonstrates and explains -identify types of changes, mixtures, and matter from examples set up around the room -draw states of matter from a molecular level HOMEWORK: “Computing Formula Mass Worksheet” Wednesday August 24 Teacher -explain how to calculate Hydrates -present practice hydrate problems -Use the periodic table and example problems to explain element, mixtures, and compounds -facilitate a short lab identifying element, mixtures, and compounds Students-complete hydrate problems from homework worksheet and turn in worksheet -understand the difference between an element, mixture, and compound using the periodic table -demonstrate understanding by completing short activity Thursday August 25 Teacher - set-up and facilitate as students complete physical and chemical change lab with a partnerStudent -complete physical and chemical change lab with a partner Friday August 26 Teacher -present a lab practical quiz covering terms from earlier in the week -ACT tutoring sessionStudent: -complete a vocabulary quiz from earlier in the week
