Lower operating and maintenance costs coupled with relatively short payback periods make efficient motors a sound business investment. Industrial electric motors represent the single largest end use of electricity in the United States. The Department of Energy recently estimated that 25% of the electricity sold is consumed by industrial electric motors used to power production processes and heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Variable frequency drive Add variable frequency drives for even greater savings to your energy-efficient motor. Minimizing operational costs can mean the difference between success and failure for many companies. Optimizing motor system efficiency can significantly reduce operational costs. That’s where variable frequency drives (VFDs) come in. VFDs match the speed of motor-driven equipment to the process, simultaneously reducing operating costs and improving overall efficiency with typical energy savings up to 50%. Alliant Energy offers VFD rebates of $30 per horsepower of the motor being used. For more information, go to a l l i a n t e n e r g y. c o m / r e b a t e s or call 1-866-ALLIANT (866-255-4268). You can save on energy costs and add investment value to your property. Energy-efficient buildings use less energy, cost less to operate and impact the environment less than conventional buildings. Alliant Energy’s Commercial New Construction program offers free energy design assistance, design team incentives and customer incentives. Track I Track I is an option targeting the construction of commercial buildings smaller than, or up to 15,000 square feet in size that are primarily design/build or design/bid/build construction. Track II Track II targets buildings larger than 15,000 square feet that are straightforward in design and may be on a faster design schedule. Track II provides evaluation of efficiency options for one type of mechanical system solution. Track III Track III targets buildings larger than 15,000 square feet and is ideal for projects with energy savings goals in mind and enough time to integrate new ideas and strategies into the design. Buildings designed in this track are typically modeled to achieve energy savings of 30 to 40% greater than Energy Code. Track IV Track IV offers incentives and assistance to help building owners or developers achieve energy savings of 40 to 60% better than current energy code. This track also provides technical and certification support for participants to meet the requirements of LEED EAc1, ENERGY STAR, EPAct, 2030 Challenge and other initiatives. Customer incentives The more energy saved, the more incentive you earn. Incentives for electric usage range from six cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for 15% savings, to 19 cents per kWh for 60% plus savings greater than Energy Code. For natural gas usage, incentives range from 60 cents per therm for 15% savings, to $1.90 per therm for 60 percent plus savings greater than Energy Code. Through Shared Savings, Alliant Energy identifies projects, evaluates technology fit and calculates the energy savings of energy-efficiency upgrades for eligible customers. You then repay the financing plus a small administrative fee back to Alliant Energy over a five-year period. The amount of financing offered depends upon the quantity of energy dollars saved by the new equipment - the more energy-efficient the equipment, the more financing is available. Build your own rebate Not all building and remodeling projects fit within a predetermined package.
