Lighting
Do you have
T12 lighting?
The simplest way to tell if
you have T12 lighting in your
facility is to look at the end of a
fluorescent tube. If it’s 11/2 inch
in diameter, it is likely an
inefficient T12 lamp.
T12
11/2”
One of the best investments you can make – with a short payback, great rate of
return and lower electric bills – is energy-efficient lighting. With upper Midwest
commercial and government facilities spending about 30% of their electric bills on
lighting, one of the first places to invest in energy-efficiency is lighting.

Retrofit Components
Alliant Energy offers great rebates on lighting equipment, and now we’ve added a complete turnkey lighting program that
pays up to 75% of the total project cost right off the top! You simply pay the remaining balance.
With the Small Business Energy Solutions program, you don’t have to wait for a rebate check. Alliant Energy pays $0.14 per
kWh saved directly to your selected lighting contractor. Here’s how the program works:
• Select a specially trained lighting contractor and schedule a free, no-obligation lighting evaluation • Schedule an evaluation at alliantenergy.com/simplesavings, or call 1-866-857-8782
• After the evaluation the contractor develops a lighting project proposal, including costs and estimated savings, for your
approval
• Upon project completion and verification, Alliant Energy pays contractor directly based on the kWh savings estimate – up
to 75% of the project cost
• You pay the remaining balance directly to the contractor
Here’s an example
Replace 64 interior lights and 10 exterior lights with qualifying energy-efficient lighting.
What customers think
$3,500 - total project cost
“When we reviewed the energy savings and payback period, along with the fact that
Alliant Energy paid a large portion right off the top, it was simple to say yes. Once the
project was completed, our employees noticed an immediate improvement in the
lighting which translates into improved productivity for our company.”
$2,625 - paid directly to contractor by Alliant Energy
$875 - your cost, paid to contractor
In addition, you would save $1,280 on annual energy bills, reaching payback on your
investment in nine months.*

Motors
Energy-efficient motors pay for themselves
The extra cost of an energy-efficient motor is often quickly repaid in energy savings especially when you factor in a
rebate from Alliant Energy. Lower operating and maintenance costs coupled with relatively short payback periods make
efficient motors a sound business investment.
Industrial electric motors represent the single largest end use of electricity in the United States. The Department of
Energy recently estimated that 25% of the electricity sold is consumed by industrial electric motors used to power
production processes and heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
Variable frequency drive
Add variable frequency drives for even greater
savings to your energy-efficient motor.
Minimizing operational costs can mean the
difference between success and failure for
many companies. Optimizing motor system
efficiency can significantly reduce operational
costs. That’s where variable frequency drives
(VFDs) come in. VFDs match the speed of
motor-driven equipment to the process,
simultaneously reducing operating costs and
improving overall efficiency with typical energy
savings up to 50%.
Alliant Energy offers VFD rebates of $30 per
horsepower of the motor being used.

Plan ahead
to maximize
Build in energy savings before construction starts – whether it’s new construction
or a major remodel. You can save on energy costs and add investment value to your
property. Energy-efficient buildings use less energy, cost less to operate and impact the
environment less than conventional buildings.
Alliant Energy’s Commercial New Construction program offers free energy
design assistance, design team incentives and customer incentives.
Track I
Track I is an option targeting the construction of commercial buildings smaller than,
or up to 15,000 square feet in size that are primarily design/build or design/bid/build
construction.
Track II
Track II targets buildings larger than 15,000 square feet that are straightforward in
design and may be on a faster design schedule. Track II provides evaluation of
efficiency options for one type of mechanical system solution.
Track III
Track III targets buildings larger than 15,000 square feet and is ideal for projects with
energy savings goals in mind and enough time to integrate new ideas and strategies
into the design. Buildings designed in this track are typically modeled
to achieve energy savings of 30 to 40% greater than Energy Code.
Track IV
Track IV offers incentives and assistance to help building owners or developers achieve
energy savings of 40 to 60% better than current energy code. This track also provides
technical and certification support for participants to meet the requirements of LEED
EAc1, ENERGY STAR, EPAct, 2030 Challenge and other initiatives.
Customer incentives
The more energy saved, the more incentive you earn. Incentives for electric usage
range from six cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for 15% savings, to 19 cents per kWh for
60% plus savings greater than Energy Code. For natural gas usage, incentives range
from 60 cents per therm for 15% savings, to $1.90 per therm for 60 percent plus
savings greater than Energy Code.

Second Nature
Low cost financing with Shared Savings
If you are a commercial, industrial or agricultural customer of Alliant Energy, you can enjoy the benefits of the Shared
Savings program – a low-cost financing program that can help you purchase and install energy-efficient equipment
while maintaining a positive cash flow.
Through Shared Savings, Alliant Energy identifies projects, evaluates technology fit and calculates the energy savings of
energy-efficiency upgrades for eligible customers. You then repay the financing plus a small administrative fee back to
Alliant Energy over a five-year period. The amount of financing offered depends upon the quantity of energy dollars
saved by the new equipment - the more energy-efficient the equipment, the more financing is available.
Build your own rebate
Not all building and remodeling projects fit within a predetermined package.
Our Custom Rebates program may work for you if you are:
• Looking for new or innovative ways to reduce energy demand
• Combining more than one type of high-efficiency equipment to make improvements
• Considering a project that is process related
• Implementing upgrades which are not eligible for the Prescriptive Rebates program.
Before purchasing or installing a project, please contact Alliant Energy for pre-approval and to establish baseline information.
Incentives are paid after the project is completed, and are equal to 200% of the annual energy dollar savings. The program
requires a minimum one-year payback after incentive.

Support renewable energy
with Second Nature™
Living a more energy-efficient lifestyle is only one way to preserve our
environment. Increasing the growth and development of renewable energy is
another. Non-residential customers who join Alliant Energy’s Second Nature
program can support renewable energy by selecting a monthly contribution that
is right for them. For every Kilowatt-hour supported, Alliant Energy purchases
renewable energy from sources within Alliant Energy’s service territory and then
adds it to the power grid to replace energy that would be otherwise generated
from fossil fuel sources.
It’s just good business sense.
Your support of renewable energy allows your business to:
• Demonstrate a leadership role in your industry

• Gain a competitive edge
• Add value to your brand and generate positive publicity
• Promote socially-responsible business practices and consumer health
Baseline guidelines
Working on LEED® certification for your newly constructed building and need the
renewable piece? Second Nature can help with that!
For a retrofit or replacement project, the baseline used to calculate a
Custom Rebate is generally the energy usage for the equipment being
replaced. Energy dollar savings for retrofit and replacement projects
are actual savings as calculated within the following guidelines:
Your business’ participation in Second Nature will earn one point in the Energy
and Atmosphere category, Credit 6: Green Power.
“Second Nature not only helps
us demonstrate our commitment
to socially responsible business
practices, but also helps improve
the lives of our guests, co-workers,
suppliers and the community,”
- David Ring, Community
Relations Coordinator at
Kwik Trip, Inc; Kwik Star stores
In order to meet the Green Power requirement, at least 35 percent of the
building’s electricity must be derived from renewable sources for a period of two
years.
• New equipment must meet minimum efficiency levels and
be pre-approved by Alliant Energy.
In addition, the renewable energy resources must meet the Center for Resource
Solutions (CRS) Green-e® Energy certification requirements. Luckily, Second
Nature is certified by Green-e Energy.
• Savings resulting directly from reduced production or shutdown are
not eligible.
For more information or to enroll, go to alliantenergy.com/secondnature.
• The baseline for replacing inoperable or worn equipment is the
energy consumption of the equipment in its original condition.
• Projects must demonstrate permanency or sustainability of savings.
• Savings when production levels change shall be calculated based
on a per-unit energy consumption before and after implementation.
The baseline for new construction Custom Rebate projects varies by
equipment type.
