Introducing Frontier, a lager that has been
lovingly crafted to explore the new territories in
taste.
Frontier has been handcrafted over 42 days
combining the best of old world malts and new
world brewing techniques and hops.
The blend of powerful new world hops and the
distinctive Fuller’s yeast that is brewed at a
higher temperature allows a deeper and more
robust flavor to flood out. The brew is then
carefully lagered for five weeks to fully condition
the beer and give it the full and interesting flavor
that differentiates it from its peers.
Cask
Fuller’s and Gale’s- Please ask our staff about our range of Fuller’s beers,
also seasonal and guest beers from the like of the George Gale’s brewery.
What is Cask Ale?
Real ale is a natural product brewed using traditional ingredients and left
to mature in the cask (container) from which it is served in the pub
through a process called secondary fermentation. It is this process, which
makes real ale unique amongst beers and develops the wonderful tastes
and aromas, which processed beers, can never provide.
The main ingredients are barley, hops and pure water. Let me explain
briefly the process….
The Barley is first malted and then heated in a kiln; at this stage the heat
affects the type of malt produced. The malt is crushed into a powder
then added to hot water and then added to a mash tun where the sugars
dissolve and the liquid is then run through the vessel to create the ‘Wort’.
The Wort is then boiled with hops and cooled before being sent to
fermentation tanks where the yeast is added.
Yeast is a microscopic fungus that feeds off the Wort’s sugars to create
alcohol and carbon dioxide, which creates a yellowy-brown crust. This is
then cleared off before the finished ‘Green Beer’ is then run into
conditioning casks. The remaining yeast continues to turn to sugar to
alcohol and also helps to purge the beer of any rough tastes. Theses
casks are then delivered to our cellars and cared for by trained staff to
allow a second fermentation in the barrel before it is then ready to be
served and enjoyed at the bar.

Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made
from sugarcane by products, such
as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice,
by a process of fermentation and distillation.
The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually
aged in oak barrels. The majority of the
world's rum production occurs in
the Caribbean and Latin America. Light
rums are commonly used in cocktails, whereas
"golden" and "dark" rums were typically
consumed individually (i.e., "straight" or
"neat") or used for cooking, but are now
commonly consumed with mixers.

Vodka is a clear spirit that can be made be produced from anything containing
starch or sugar – including potatoes, molasses and, most commonly, grain. Once
distilled virtually any flavouring can be added to create one of the many flavoured
vodkas you see here.
Vodka’s origin is a source of a bitter dispute between the Russians and the Polish –
both argue that it originated in their country. The name ‘Vodka’ derives from the
Russian word for water, in turn the Polish word ‘Wodka’ also derives from the
Polish for water. This is thought to be a reference to the alchemical idea that
spirits were the water of life.
Blended Whisky
The word ‘whiskey’ derives from the Gaelic ‘uisque beatha’, meaning
‘water of life’ and whiskies are distilled in countries around the world
including Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan. Wales
and England have recently started producing whiskey as the drink joins
the popular resurgence of small batch spirit production we are
experiencing at the moment.
We have approximately 30 whiskies to try from simple blends to
Smokey single malts from the Scottish Isles. We also have whiskies
from the USA and Wales in the ‘cabinet’ so why not pull up a stool to
the bar for a ‘wee dram’…..?

Gin was a bi-product of a cure for kidney complaints for Dutch settlers in the West
Indies and the name was ‘Genièvre’, the French word for Juniper, the base ingredient
that makes Gin, well Gin. The Dutch soon adopted this new spirit as an essential
ingredient to good health and shortened it to ‘Genever’ or ‘Jenever’.
King William III (William of Orange) introduced Genever to England, aided by British
troops who discovered the drink (referred to as ‘Dutch Courage’) while fighting in
Holland. The English further abbreviated the Dutch name ‘Genever’ simply to ‘Gin’.
Did you know?
In the 1740’s, the average man, woman and child in London drank 2 pints of Gin a week
– by 1750 a pint of Gin was cheaper than a pint of beer…….
