The problem with California
1. What was so threatening about California's admittance to the
union as a free state?
• That the territory around it would also become free states.
2. What was the debate between northerners and southerners?
Southerners - if CA becomes a free state, the slave states would be
outnumbered in the senate.
Northerners - Yes, but California is above the 36/30 line and should
technically be a free state anyways.
