Social Studies Update
This week, we will be finishing Chapter 6, Lesson 1 in Social Studies titled
“Europeans Come to the Americas.”
A QUIZ will be given on this material
on Friday, January 15. Students will be able to
bring home their textbooks and journal notes to
study. Please review pages 138-145 with your child.
Vocabulary: expedition, colony, Columbian exchange
People: Leif Ericson, Christopher Columbus, King
Ferdinand, Queen Isabella
Places: Spain, Indies (Southeast Asia), Bahama Islands, San Salvador
Final draft of the essay (typed or neatly written) is
due by Monday, January 25.
Visual Projects are due Monday, January 25. Your
child should be starting to collect information at
home.
Components include:
• a visual presentation - poster, diorama, trifold, or
Google slideshow
• a written essay outlining important facts about the
explorer
• an oral presentation in which students will report to
the class some information that they have learned
about their explorer
New Year’s Dance
* Next Friday, January 22 there will be
a New Year’s Dance at Conte School
from 5:30-7:00 p.m..
Explorers Projects
CORRECTION: Research for the Social Studies
explorers projects is due next Tuesday, January 19.
I will provide feedback and corrections on the research outline sheet. Then, students can begin writing their essays at home.
