Centering a Multiview Drawing

Drafting
Centering a Multi-view Drawing
1. Determine the top, front, and right side views (front view shows the most detail)
2. Determine the working area of the page 9” x 12” = 7 ¼” x 11
3. Add width of front view + depth of right side + 1” for spacing between views
4. Subtract sum from total horizontal working area (11 inches)
5. Divide by 2, this is the distance you will measure in from the left border line
6. Draw a construction line vertically here
7. Add height of front view + depth of top view + 1” for spacing between views
8. Subtract sum from total vertical working area (7 ¼ inches)
9. Divide by 2, this is the distance you will measure in from the bottom border line
10. Draw a construction line horizontally here
11. You should now have your starting point, which is the lower left corner of the front
view.
Centering Horizontally
Horizontal working area – (width front view + 1" + depth right side) = distance from
2
left border
Centering Vertically
Vertical working area – (height front view + 1" + depth top view) = distance from
2
bottom border
Centering Horizontally
_______– (_______ + 1" + _______) = distance from
2
left border
Centering Vertically
_______ – (_______ + 1" + _______) = distance from
2
bottom border
To divide a fraction by two take the bottom number x 2. The top number will remain the same.
Example:
one half of 1/2 = 1/4
or 1/2 divided by 2 = 1/4
