PRIME LAMB HOOF & HOOK COMPETITION STATE SHEEP SHOW DUBBO (NSW CENTRAL
WEST- AUSTRALIA) HELD MAY 2015
100 pens, containing six (6) lambs representing all major sheep breeds in Australia, where a total of
three lambs from each pen were selected, slaughtered and judged “on the hook” at Fletchers International Abattoirs, Dubbo. The remaining lambs from each pen were judged live “on the hoof”. The two
scores were then added together to give the final result.
In the merino section, the champion pen was exhibited by Coddington Uardry. The lambs were born in
May 2014 and shorn February 2015. Average live weight was 71kg, dress weight was 35.2kg at $5.60
per kg, skin value $9.00, giving a grand total of A$206 per head. These lambs also cut 3.75kg of wool.
Roseville Park Dohne won first place in the Dohne section. These lambs were born in May 2014, shorn
February 2015. Average live weight 70.4kg, average dress weight 34.7kg at $5.60 per kg, skin value
$10.00, giving a grand total of A$204.51 per head. In 2014, a pen of RP Dohne lambs won this competition having a dress weight of 38kg and they made $6.00 per kg and came back at $240. A record price
for Dohne lambs sold in Australia.
Charollais Section, first place was won by Susan Coddington, with a pen of Charollais/Dohne cross
lambs born in November 2014, unshorn. Average live weight 54kg, average dress weight 26kg, skin
value $7.00 at $5.60 per kg, giving a grand total of $158 per head. Second place in this section was won
by GR & S CODDINGTON. GR & S CODDINGTON were awarded the most successful exhibitor of the
Dubbo State “Hoof & Hook” show.

“Hoof & Hook” competition 2015 Dubbo
Winning Charollais/dohne lamb in wellington hoof
and hook competition
Coddington Uardry and Dohne lambs sold up to May 2015, have averaged A$135 per head. Most of
these lambs were sold early due to dry conditions.
600 ewes, including maiden ewes were joined to charollais rams to lamb in March/April 2014 with a
118% of lambs born and they were rejoined with lambs at foot in April/May 2014 and scanned in lamb
in August at 67 percent and marked 120% of lambs. In 12 months, these 600 ewes have produced
1,134 lambs. This shows the ability of our breeding program selecting for muscle, fat, constitution, and
conformation for the last 15 years has enhanced profitability for our clients and our enterprise.
Graham Coddington’s breeding philosophy for a dual purpose merino with high quality wool, cutting
6kg of wool without mulesing has put our genetics AHEAD OF THE PACK.
